question about camber plates

if you install them on your car you loosen up those 4 little bolts and thats it at the top to adjust your camber right? how the hell do the 4 little bolts on top keep the suspension in position with the weight of the car sitting on top like that? especially under hard cornering?

usually you set the top to the min camber setting, then align the car to spec. come autocross day you can easily dial in some more camber, and the way our suspension is set up by adding camber you increase toe out in the front, which also helps turn. at the end of the day you can easily slide them back to the min setting, which should return your alignment to the first specs. also cornering puts the majority of the load on the ball joint + control arm, not much force is put up top. they won't slide on their own

I was asking Dale and Derrek about this. They both said that adjusting at track was a bad idea.

i dissagree! strongly! it will work just fine.

more camber + toe out = better bite in the corner. period!

That's why most plates have decent tick marks so you can adjust them back and forth without messing too much up. As long as you realize the toe issues like Jerry said, you'll be fine. Get a good starting point alignment for daily driving, adjust at the track, adjust back to the dd settings.

Lots of people do this. It keeps you from running crazy negative camber on a daily basis. Also, lots of good camber plate threads in the brake and suspension forum.

Those four little bolts hold fine, many people up here who road race up in tanacross don't have any problems with them.

As for changing the camber back and forth, I wouldn't care, but then again I know that some people might not like the way a car drives with lots of camber with our sweet ruts in alaska.

Yep. The vibrations at Tanacross loosened quite a few other things on the car, but there were no problems at all with the front camber settings on mine.

well i'm sure there's nothing horridly unsafe about it like OMG YOUR CAMBER IS OFF BY .00032455 DEGREES...i mean we've all tapped the curb once or twice but it doesn't mean your car is going to explode at the track because it pulls to the right

if your going to mess with the camber at the track it would bee a good idea to know just how much it will change toe. more than a 1/4inch toe out will cause the toe out on turns to be out of usable range causing the car to plow. when you turn toe out is increased as you turn because the inside tire does not travel the same path or as far as the outside tire.
