well,

as for 'mini monster' - I've been looking at all the other builds that have been going on with MONSTER GT37R twin scrolls, as well as the newly released aps SR70 series twin scroll...

Mine was originally intended to be a 'mild' build, with a stock sti block, and some minor cams...

... IAP performance quit a project turbo kit they were working on with a Crawford Performance (modded Garrett GT32 Turbo) twin scroll turbo kit, and that came with everything for 2k...

...then an Axis Stage 3 block fell out of nowhere for 1800 with 1 cracked pistion... so I had the piston replaced, the crank checked, and the cylinder re-honed (currently underway) - everything checks out perfect.. so I ended up only spending like 2500 bucks for everything including shipping...

...the heads were just posted up a couple days ago from a guy that was selling his project parts, so I picked up the Jun cams, valves, retainers, springs, etc, and the ported heads (he was going to install it on the same exact block as I had) for around 2900 shipped...

...the axles are being swapped out for the newer 5x114.3 w/conversion kit through worldone - possibly stage 4 or 5, not sure as of yet... still undecided...

... the rims will be provided by COBB - They had a hellova good deal for a set BBS 3 piece racing rims they had on sale for a killer deal... pics of those to follow... these things are freakin beautiful!!

... all in all, if everything I purchased in packages, and my old parts all sell out, I'll end up breaking a bit above even, and still have enough deployment money to pay off the STi -

.....and get an evoX - heheh... the next project car.. haha...

will update post #1 with pics soon... I should be home mid-September, with the build completed hopefully by no later than October 15th. I've got to get down to Cali to break in everything, then tune it when I get back.

more to come soon! WOOT!

haha - i dunno.. I just stumbled upon a thread that biggie from cobb started.. I had the cash, so I bought em up...

I didnt really think about it before I bought the rims.. but man... if my car catches on fire.. Magnesium is quite the excellent fuel for teh flame... hehe..

.. If these rims dont stick, then I may sell em - We'll see.. Either that or I'll swap em for a set of Advan RS - 18x10's..

^^^ HAHA.. APC... yeah they had the kit on the shelf at schucks autoparts.. It was reasonably priced, and it came with a turbonator... I knew that was the kit for me...

honestly.. I had to figure out a way to fit the widest rims possible, and not have to cut chunks of metal off...

APR wanted in on the project, and I needed a new paint job anyways... I that keeping the factory lines and not make the car look like a freakshow was the main goal... I dont want to be known for a widebody, just that the car is well balanced...

... I HOPE it doesnt end up looking like a freak show... If it does, oh well, at least it'll be a fast freak show.. haha..

.. I'm still undecided on all the added aero stuff... I dont want all sorts of expensive, shatter prone Carbon Fiber on the outside... especially if this ends up being my daily driver...

... um, its been a while since I've asked.. but um.. Whats the average price of Super Unleaded in the NW right now??

Up in B'ham it was about $3.09 iirc a couple of days ago, although there's been talk of prices jumping $.20/gal in other areas, if that's so then we'll get jacked again too.

ouch. well, i guess an optimist would think 'well at least I'm not paying 7-8 bucks a gallon like they do in Germany'....

.. but it still doesnt make me feel any better..

... Those cams are going to destroy my gas budget if I try to use it for a daily driver..

I hear ya. I've got a 288/288 .512" cam in my 5.0 and I'm lucky to get better than 15mpg on the highway. Thankfully I can run 87 in it still.

The way you source your parts is very intereting to me. You found ubah stuff from for sale thread, and knowing what project car was done/aborted, and got pieces from it.

that is just smart. I'm assuming some of the parts you listed are parts you currently have in your car?

And getting picked up by APR for a bodywork, that's really nice.

I just recently started doing performance mods to my car, looking at what you are doing, I felt that I really need to be smarter about things and buy "good used parts" instead of brand new.

Yeah, used parts from reliable people will save you an arm and a leg. Wish I would have known this when I started modding, would have saved me a ton of money.

Man, this car is gonna be nuts! That parts list is like every subaru enthusiast's wish list.

^^^ If the paint job goes as planned, it should already be paid for... making this a very cheap build..

Not all of the parts are on the car, obviously, but yes, most of the supporting mods are already installed and in use.

This may sound a bit elementary... but after I researched what I needed to obtain to reach my end result goal HP & TQ, I started looking on the forums for the parts...

It's amazing the prices you see... Sometimes, I'll buy stuff for other people, knowing that they're lookin for that certain item... They'll pay me back +5% and they end up saving thousands... (yeesh i sound like a tele-marketing service)

... just be VERY careful not to get scammed... ask for pictures, ask for phone numbers.. if its local, then arrange a local pickup...

... you look around long enough, you will get lucky...
