I wouldn't be so quick to call names. Sometimes wheels are chipped or damaged enough that repainting it is the only method to make it look nice again.

AFAIK I was the first to do the whole time attack thing (over 2 years ago). Kind of disgruntled to see how popular the look is now (was really unique back then) but it is still pretty unique, at least when driving around town.

My original thread here:
http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=110123

Aquacow's method was probably better (spraying both the lip and the wheel). I personally just painted the wheel black, then brushed on the red with a paintbrush, then cleared the whole thing. I think there are vinyl stickers now that you can use to cover the lip of the wheel if you want to spray it. Either that or just take the time to tape it off. If I were to do it again I would attempt to spray it, though it might be faster to just use a brush.

Some pics

After 2 years (the last two pics) the black is starting to fade (thats what happens in hot NM sun) - but 2/4 wheels still look really good. I might repaint them sometime. The last two pics my car is really dirty too so they kind of dont look that great... once the car is washed the wheels look great, especially cause the red lip is so vibrant.... more like a candy-apple/fire truck red. I like the contrast - sticks out more from most after-market time attacks that have a dull red lip.

whatever JR, I'm sick and tired of the 02 WRX stock "silver wheels". I have a WRB wrx and the wheels should've come at least in gold from the factory....Anyway great job guys on painting the wheels, I have P1's for summer, and I'm going to try and paint the stockers either gold, or something close to "anthracite" color. Keep em' coming......

+1

my wheels were badly chipped from one too many rallying adventures in the desert.... sanding them and painting them was the only option for them to ever look good. Painting wheels is the farthest thing from Rice I can think of.... that was a ridiculous comment. In fact people who paint their stockers realize the performance benefit of keeping the stock wheels... at 16 lbs they are VERY light and thus are a good wheel choice. Not ricer at all.... that's preposterous!

thanx man i appreciate the compliments....i used the same paint acqua used for the lip. it was pretty easy. and about the guy whos disgruntled. Not many people have done the time attack really...i was the only one at a 70+ suby meet with that style and i got alot of compliments about it. i do however thank you and acqua for the idea of doing them to mine. =)

I am currently in the process of building a "wheel rotisserie" for spraying wheels on a semi-production basis at my new place.

I'm basically going to have the wheel rotate, while I spray it...vs me manually rotating the wheel on a stand...should be a bit quicker to turn painted wheels out.

JDM_WRX_FREAK doesn't appear to be an asset to this community, so I've given him a couple of weeks to think about it.

When he comes back I'd be much obliged if someone would PM me if he's being a douche again, and he's gone for good.

Rustoleum 1936 Metallic Brass FTW baby!!! (see post #191)

(Excuse the mess, we're having trees cut down along the driveway so they don't come crashing down through the living room during the next storm lol)

Thanks! Yea, I didn't want the long, one-piece vortex generator because the fins were much wider and taller and looked tacky. These are individually placed with 3m tape and are angled 15* at the center, 10*, 5* and then 0* at the end. I like how they came out a lot.

RS 6 spokes. These wheels were in pretty rough shape (the little lip was curbed badly) so I sanded the **** outta them.

Duplicolor black, a few coats and no clear.

Hey guys, I just got done spraying my 02' stockers Gold. The car looks fantastic...

Now, that being said, the paint is a little rough to the touch, perhaps because of the way gold metallic paint is. My question: Can I wet sand them? and if so, what grit/brand do you reccommend?

Did you even clear coat them? You can wet sand them with a very high grit paper that almost feels like regular looseleaf paper. Then spray a coat of clear.
