It also made me LOL that the shift knob was the only shiny/clean looking thing in the car. I wish you luck man, that thing will look great if you can restore it.

Don't expect a EJ swap in this thing... The drivetrain and suspension layout is completely different from any other Subaru.

Its a FWD drivetrain, with inboard front brakes and a very strange torsion rod front suspension. I'd need to keep the stock transmission with any engine I use, so It would need to use a engine that would work that transmission... Although I do kind of want an upgrade from the original 63hp this car comes with

The best bet along those lines is an EA71 (1600) motor. The EA61 (1100) thats in it now has steel sleeved piston cylinders that cause lots of headgasket issues, however its possible to use the EA71 shortblock with EA63 heads and intake manifold and maybe throw a Weber 32/36 carb on there for more power...

That's the problem... so rare that there won't be any "parts cars" to swap pieces from, so niche that there aren't new restoration parts like on vintage mustangs and camaros etc.

Anyway it looks like it has amazing potential, good luck with your project!
