i hate my console but i'm not paying $400 for nicer cupholders and a hidden lighter outlet.

great writeup, if i ever come across a wrecked 06 TR maybe i'd do it.

okay... so i started doing this mod... and i have the 06 tr bezel but the 04 climate controls dont sit in the 05+center console nor can they be mounted/screwed in... my question is did you guys buy an 06 tr center console or mod the 05+ wrx center console? anyone have any ideas on this or suggestions? oh and how did you guys shorten your e-brake cable? and also keep the handle from shifting to the left?

you dont, you just put a new e-brake handle in.

The way I read this, he's not talking about switching the different ebrakes out. He's talking about the 05+ ebrake leaning to the left in the 04(I think).

I just bent the bracket on mine if thats what your referring too....

oh, haha, well i havent done this yet (its nearly impossible to source an 05+ console for a decent price) so i didnt know it did that. my bad.

No biggy, I can tell you of a place that has the full console conversions all day long for around 300-320 shipped if your interested.

They will sit in if you position them correctly. Also, there are some metal clips that the manual control cars (06-07 TR) have that the other models do not that serve as the mounts for HVAC controls. You can see the rectangular openings where these clips are supposed to go in to. My console swap came with one clip and I was able to use zip-ties to secure the other three corners of the HVAC controls. Sounds cheesy, but it is very solid and works perfectly.

You don't shorten the cable, you swap the short cable that is connected to the handle from your 02-04 handle to your 05+ handle. As for leaning to the left, like someone else said, I just bent mine so that the handle was reasonably centered.

Yes, the whole assembly needs to be bent slightly(not just the handle). I just bolted mine in and put the ebrake up and used it's own leverage to bend the bracket. Be careful though, you can mess up the ebrake if your not careful. You could put it in a vice and do it, but the way I did it worked fine for me...

are we talking the left mounting tap w/ no mounting hole? or bending the right side of the bracket, where the nut bolts in?

I would say it's probably where the nuts bolt. Like I said above.... I just bolted mine in and tugged on it carefully so I couldnt say *exactly* what part of the bracket it is.

Maybe someone else thats done it can chime in.

seeing as i cant make a new thread this looks like a decent place for my question :P

new owner of a 04 sti here... when i purchased it, it had a aftermarket headunit... i recently bought a oem 05 sti headunit and it all pluged up power radio connector was there but the speaker harness was spliced with an aftermarket harness... im having an extremely hard time finding a speaker harness not even at the dealer any suggestions ; ;

the zip tie method sounds cheesy, but I just did the exact same thing in my 04 to 06 console swap. Four zip-ties, one at each corner, and its not going anywhere. Great call.
As for the e-brake handle, even swapping the cable did not give me enough tightness in the line so I improvised a bit. I used a nylon spacer from Lowe's to 'shorten' the cable by an additional 3/4 inch. Now its OEM tight and no ordering special parts.

All in all, very easy, but it definitely took me like 3 hours to figure everything out the way I wanted. So again, very easy, just takes a bit of time.

does anyone know where one can get the rectangular clips? I havent been able to find any anywhere (even jamie over at subaru genuine parts couldnt find a Part number for me to order). Ive had mine in for awhile now, but i stole 2 of the clips from my OEM clock pod and the other two are the ones that hold the radio trim on. lol.

im kinda confused as to why some pics have the silver sti trim around the boot and others dont? does this thing stick on or does it screw on because it doesint look like it will fit on the first post picture
