They leveraged the names of many of the people well known for work on the west side. While they did provide me with a rebuilt engine, it took several months and never ran well. On top of that, a set of drop in CP pistons were very noisy. I had V-8s in the past with forged pistons, so I was aware of the noise they can make. These sounded like they had 50K miles on them, not 4K miles. Over the next year I fixed what I could, but pretty much had a car that was not fun to drive that grew louder every day. I put less than 4K mile on the car out of disgust and it is my sole transport.

Well last month Travis gave me a call and offered to swap the pistons and go over the engine. After actually talking things through, it was decided that I didn't need forged pistons. Better yet, he listened to what I wanted. I wanted a replacement engine for my 2.0L I had before that saw daily use and light track duty, not some 450 WHP monster. Travis took the car in on a Wednesday and started working on it on Thursday. Saturday afternoon I had the car back in my possession. The car is back to sounding stock. I didn't realize how much noise the pistons were making till I drove the car home. I spent 15 miles listening to the AC blow, the exhaust note rumble slightly, and the eleventeen billion Screwbaroo dash rattles. I never thought I would be so happy to hear the squeaks in the dash from Subaru's poor build quality.

Thanks again Travis. You pretty much resurrected the car on Easter Weekend. I can't wait to finish the break in and have a quiet reliable car again. On top of that he did it in 3 days vs. 3 months.

Travis hooked me up with a tune this weekend and did my motor build/replacement a few months ago.
Awesome service and will be getting all my work and tunes done with him in the future.
LOVE the car now.

Default Bump for a Local!

Just wanted to throw a bump to Travis and Wes at Snailperformance.com. The two of them have come all the way down to Avondale to take a look at my car when I was having my coolant issue and their advice helped me get over that issue with my own hands. No charge. Then on Friday night at about 10pm, I swung by the "shop" to see if Travis could help me out with a tune by wiping the existing ECUtek off my ecu and doing his open ecu tuning. Being that it was so late...and I am greatful that he even helped me in any way...he decided to just rip the ecutek off and throw a base map of the open type on there. The whole reason for stopping so late was that I had just got off work and needed to get on the road to Vegas BUT didn't want my old map on there since it was running sooo rich. The new "base" map is FANTASTIC! I have to say that all the people that said Travis was the tuner to see, I thank you. The new "base" map is 10 times better than the old ecutek crap. So, that's it, just a big bump for a team that knows what they are doing and taking time no matter when it is to help a brotha out lol. I can't wait to have my map "fine" tuned.

wow, guess i'll be the first to post problems. Suprised, after all the people i've talked to with major problems caused by shady work they received.

Travis tuned my car quite a while ago, along with a friends on the same day. He charged us $200/ea. Ignorant at the time on how you were supposed to tune, I thought it was done right. Travis flashed our car's, didn't use a wideband, disconnected his laptop, and then floored it around the block using his ear as a knock sensor. All around 15min's for each car!

Much later, I had my car dyno'd. Luckily for me, my car was running rich. My friend wasn't so lucky, which now has 2 cylinders with a leakdown between 13-15% on his brand new '07 STi as his was running insanely lean.

The maps were downloaded before fixed, only later to find hidden signature's that the maps wasn't even his. They were stolen, horribly hacked, and not tuned right for either of our cars.

I was also involved in a local motor FS thread that Travis built. Asking if it was built right before considering buying, Travis immediately replies yes. Unfortunately for him, the OP replied after him with "yes", explaining that the rings were gap'd and pistons dropped in... apparently not knowing how horribly wrong that is. Trying to explain that it wasn't done right, that it needs to be bored/honed/balanced on a used block... only turned into an argument of stupidity.

On top of all that, I have personally talked to a good half-dozen people that was tuned, and following needed their engine rebuilt... having nothing but problems since. I'm scared to know how many more this happened too.

After a "Travis screwed my car and/or tune up" bash on another thread... he writes this at the end of a post:

Quote:
Also just to give everyone a heads up Snail Performance is going away I just don’t have the time to do it anymore with working with the Air Force and not knowing what my future plans are I think it is time to just call it quits. Giving myself more time to work on my own car and spend more time with my wife. There are a lot of great shops here in town that can get the job done. I will still be around if you want to give me a call asks some questions or just shoot the zhit. It has been a blast I will still be out at the track racing so feel free to stop by and say hi.

Travis
All I can say is, thank god your pulling the plug. Although, I think the real reason you're closing the operation is your shady mechanic/tuneing ways is catching up to you FAST.

In that case, let's add some more idiot's that are out of their f*cking head according to you.

Idiot #1
Idiot #2
Idiot #3-1
Idiot #3-2

HERE is the motor FS thread that I refered too, that was built horribly wrong.

I'm sure their is more, but I don't feel like searching the forums right now.

God forbid more come forward and post, i'd hate to find out how many more idiot's in AZ are out of their f*cking heads!

Yep; It's all part of our imagination, the posts, and even the motor FS thread. We must have all been bored, or it was a dream.

It's scary too, because it's like we were their, in our cars... seeing it happen!

God, you're right... I must look so bad. Well, I guess it's expected. After all, i'm just a idiot out of my f'n head.

So my car wasn't tuned in a parking lot never moved? I was there, and it was witnessed by quite a few out at the marina meet. I wont even touch the fact that my 05 had an 04 rom from the tune pulled from Jayme's car. Custom map my ass.

You have MUCH better options out here. Check out FAT or Goodspeed if you want a good tune.

I would recommend taking it to a shop not someones house! I had them replace my shortblock back in march 09' and I have been having problems ever since. I spoke with travis a few times in the begining about it and nothing ever happened. I also kept finding things wrong that they did and was so pissed off that I wanted nothing to do with them ever again. What I can't do myself I take to FAT.

Travis now tunes for FAT, so I guess you'll be looking for a new shop?
