2008 STI Headlight housing/HID to WRX, 2.5i?

From a non-owner, this might seem like an odd question, but are the housings interchangable? Seems like an easy way to add a nice HID system, even if you didn't use the factory bulbs.

Somebody call me a noob.

Yes it's a common swap to put STi HIDs into other Imprezas, but the entire light assembly has to be changed.

cost for 08 units? ( i know the evo headlamps are outragious.)

Not entirely

I have '07 STi D2S bulbs, STi ballasts, Lightwerkz/STi hybrid harness, and stock '06 2.5i projectors inside my 2.5i housings.

Sure you can do that, but he was asking about swapping housings so my answer was directed as a response to his question. What you have is OEM bulbs and ballasts in the H7 halogen housings, not the same thing.

Yes you answered his original question, and I offered another cheaper alternative to changing entire headlights with similar results. I know my projectors aren't the same as the STi ones however.

gotcha. to me, the only reason to swap them, would be the housing designed for HID. Whereas at least with a projector (even halogen), you do get a fairly good clean cutoff.

Correct, you are better off with an HID housing vs. a halogen housing with HID bulbs. It is possible to get acceptable results with D2S bulbs in halogen H7 lights (I actually have this setup in my Morettes), but it still won't match the performance of true HIDs.

Which is why I will have TSX projectors when I can afford them. The D2S bulbs in my H7 projectors is temporary.
