Talking Those of you interested in Track classes

There is an SCCA Drivers Class at Second Creek Mar. 24-25th (a class is on the 23rd). I gotta do my budget tonight, but more than likely I'll be there. If your pursuing a regional license, the class is required, or you can go for fun. There are only two more this year after this one, La Junta (June), and Second Creek again (October). The schedule is subject to change, so more could be added as summer draws near.

The class is $165 (cheap). For more info go to http://www.coloradoscca.org or call (720)977 7167 for registration info or general SCCA info. The class is not filled, so there are more seats.

Yeah, but to go you need a REAL racecar, which yours is not I'm just joking

But I do think you need a cage and drivers suit and a whole lot of other stuff to go. YOu can rent a car, but it will cost you 400-1000 bucks.

JJ is right. You need a REAL racecar. One that has been fully teched, a complete cage, all the safety equipment (although these can be rented), and you yourself need an a firesuit, fireproof shoes, gloves, and underwear (don't forget about an SA approved helmet).

Question

Be nice if that were mentioned on the pile of forms I have on my desk.

It mentions having proper gear, and an SCCA approved helmet, and the car must be prepped to run. Can it get any more vague.

Not saying you guys are wrong (more than likely your right). I'll call the reg. office Monday for some clarification.

Aw man! I was getting really excited about this until I read about the fully-prepped race cars

Please let me know if anyone decides for or against the non race-prepped cars.

Yep, the guys above are right. I heard about this and you do need a 'race car' which is pretty expensive.

This was discussed on the RMSolo e-mail list a few weeks ago. JJ and I are just relaying the information from there.

Unhappy

I talked to the SCCA club racing group.

I'll need the firesuits and helmet (~$450 for the gear, already have helmet).

The car does need to be race prepped. So if I wanted to run Showroom Stock, I'll need the safety equipment installed on my car. Things like full roll cage (~$900), 4-point harness, race tires (not street), and whatever items are in the 2001 Club Racing Rulebook.

Oh well, maybe some other time. I could spend a couple of grand on places like Bob Bondrants School (Arizona), or Go For It services (Lousiville). Unfortunately, I have to pay for rent, food, car stuff, etc. So it will be a while before I go.
