I always wanted to know what the hardest setting on my coilovers were, so I set them to the hardest 'track' setting. Also, my tires were pumped to around 45psi if I can recall.
On Saturday, I drive to work in the morning and park my car. The temperature outside was around 97ish all day. When I get off work at 7pm, I drive home. I hit those lane reflectors while changing a lane and I hear a louder thump than usual. My alignment then shifts to the left slightly and I notice something is wrong. While stopping towards a light my wheel is flat and has a large gash in it (75% of the sidewall). Could the temperature, hardness setting, heat, and reflector bump be the cause of all this? I'm thinking that 45 psi in cool weather would actually be higher than 45psi once the temperatures rise dramatically. My tires are relatively new and still have the chalk lines in them. Just wanted to vent. My wheels are fine, so that's good ![]()

Your tire pressure would have raised throughout the day, as it got hotter the pressure increased probably stressing it to the point of failure once you hit the reflector.
SOrry for you luck. |

Never run that high of pressure. What was the max pressure? 50? You definitely will be over 50 throughout the day of driving and 90+ degree weather. I run whats on the door jam, plus or minus 2-3lbs.

ouch, sorry to hear. tire pressure was probably too high, but i dont think it should have done that from a reflector...

prior to the 45, an alignment shop has done 40's. I'll stay in the 38's from now on.
