Who makes best adjustable cam gear

Does anyone know who makes the best adjustable cam gear? I have heard the jun ones are good, but what about obx they are about half the price but how reliable are they ? please comment

i say best as in most reliable and comparable to oem specification with regards to teeth design for the best, my main concern is having the belt jump timing, due to a faulty manufacturing process so just wondering if saving a few dollars on the obx gears are even worth it along with the ability to actually adjust and dial in the timing which would be easier to use or are they all the same?

but does anyone have any factual information as to why the parts are better also i mean i find some parts for jun highly over priced ie and oil pump for 1050 us ?

IIRC Jun adjustable units start out life as OEM cam gears that they machine down and put an adjuster wheel on.

I would like to see a metal replacement gear for the plastic ones. My mechanic broke one using the right tool and rounded off the allen bolt also.

Those plastic gears are a nightmare, even with the proper tool. But I think its because the bolt has a taper on the washer part that preloads it on. I had to drill mine out

are the ajustable cam gears a nightmare? Is it better to get a set up drop in cams like kelfords?, im suppose to be going with a rigoli setup 272/272 with high lift but told it can only work with adjustable cam gears

Can't we use metal gears of a 2.5 na motor to replace the plastic ones since there's no avcs on the exhaust cams?

2.5 is a sohc and i don't think they are the same.

I have a set of metal gears... they came on my EJ20G

I used the USDM plastic gears tho, they're designed to fragment on impact to lessen the chance of catastrophic engine damage.

EDIT: Oh, you guys are talking about post-02 stuff... lol ignore me

I have the OBX cam gears in my car and they are really nicely made, unfortunately you have to do a little sanding,filing and grinding but all in all they are worth it!

is it dangerous to use lighter adjustable cam gears? what would be the benefits other than faster acceleration would it be easier on the belt system ?

correct,I used to run JUN cam gears,worked grate but yes abit heavy so swaped to some PMS cam gears..also cheeper than JUN gears.

i cant find any pic's off my old JUN gears..sorry.

$990 AUD also no modding is needed,bolt on dial in and off u go.

The '98 2.5RS, '98 Forester, '96-99 Legacy 2.5GT, and '97-99 Legacy Outback all came with N/A DOHC EJ25s. I don't know if the cam pulleys are interchangeable with the turbo DOHC engines, as I've never had them in my hands side-by-side.

some new adj cam gears i can get atm-
suit 99-00 sti or 99-02 wrx heads
half the weight off the JUN units(what ive also had b4) and slightly heave yer than my current PMS gears(there are stronger)

$850 inc gst + post

(JUN are $1200 trade) (old PMS are $990) the new 1's are cheaper and made to what robin wanted and no stuffing around with these 1's(much much better cam gears)

I have been told the biggest problem with most of the aftermarket cam gears is the anodizing of the aluminium on the toothed cog. It simply not hard enough and wears away and can result in the belt jumping.
