Okay so while I'm compiling all my parts and laying out the vehicle and systems in my EZ30R swap. Now one question I need some info on for differences. External oil cooler and the turbo Forester Oil cooler kit, or both? Now what exacly does the Subaru kit system do? Car is being set up NA and might be FI later on it it's life but can make more changes at that point. I'll likely be fine temp wise but I like over doing it a bit.
This will be my daily driver with an aftermarket radiator made designed up to specs for the engine(DS1MotorSports is looking into it. Dylan is the man!)-Gaddis

Is there a factory oil cooler kit for the EZ30R? Mine's still sitting happily in the garage in a crate, so I haven't even looked to see if it has an oil-to-water cooler on it or not. If it does not have a factory cooler, I think it would be risky to assume the Forester cooler kit would fit.

Now I'm not sure what the kit entales and what the system actually does to cool the oil. Looks like there's an aditional pump for something or maybe a compressor. I think I'll email them and ask cause it's just the local Subi dealer's Parts department. They are also on here I'll just PM them. Just thinking getting a good cooling system. Will help the longevity of the engine along with genneral better responce from the engine when any load or extended higher output. So anyone else know any info on this or input as to choice of one over the other? -Gaddis |

The kit you're looking at is an oil-to-water cooler that installs between the block and the oil filter. There's no pump or compressor - not sure what made you think that. The oil flows through the cooler on the way to/from the filter, while coolant flows around it to transfer heat. It is specifically designed for an EJ-series engine. The different water pump outlet, the plug that goes into the block with a hose nipple on it, the hard heater hoses, brackets, etc are designed for an EJ, hence my comment that I think it would be risky to assume it would fit an EZ30R. I'd be willing to bet it won't fit.
I agree that oil coolers are good things, assuming the car is going to pushed in such a way that the additional cooling is necessary. For the EZ30R I think your only option is going to be an aftermarket setup. There have been a number of threads about oil cooler setups, so you should be able to find some good info here. I finally got around to looking at the EZ30R in my garage to see if it's got a factory oil cooler. The engine is still in it's crate, so I didn't get a good look (had to use a mirror to see where the filter sits) but it does, in fact, have an oil-to-water cooler, just like the ones on the EJ engines.
An external oil-to-air cooler will be even more effective, assuming it's sized properly and you can get good airflow to the cooler. I added one of the factory oil coolers (like the Forester kit you linked above) to my EJ25 and it dropped oil temps about 10C on the track. I would expect with a good external oil cooler that I could get that down another 10 or 20C. Pat |

If you do plan to use an external oil cooler please also use a thermostatic bypass valve so the oil isn't flowing through it when at or below normal operating temperatures.

I'm thinkin' you could just double stack the oil coolers. Unlike the EJ-series engines, the EZ oil filter is parallel to the ground. Again, my engine is still in a crate, so there may be something I'm missing, but I think you could just put a sandwich adapter on the existing factory oil-to-water cooler and add an oil-to-air cooler that way. The stock cooler would act as the thermostatic control.
