Default "Easiest" way to make 500whp...

Hello everyone! I have a 2004 STi...I was thinkin bout going with an FP Red turbo. What do u guys think? My goal is 450-500! I called Forced Performance and they said it can be done with just basic mods...Does that sound right??
FP Red Turbo
Turbo XS TMIC
1000 injectors
Walbro pump
Turbo-back exhaust
Headers/ up-pipe
Those were the basic mods they mentioned...What kinda #s have yall seen from experience? If not with this turbo, is it possible to make 500whp on pump gas w/o having to spend millions? Thanks for any help/info you might have!!

The 04's are known for having the weakest pistons of the sti's which means when you push that stock block to make close to 450-500 whp on pump you WILL crack a ringland it is inevitable, maybe not immediately, but you will. There is no such thing as making 500whp on straight pump cheaply--PEROID!!!

K, thanks for the help...I was told bout the piston thing before. Should I add rods while I have the motor out? If I did that, what kinda power could my motor reliably handle then?

TurboXS TMIC? I am going TXS FMIC for just ~330whp. If you're really going for 500whp, then think about the heatsoak your TMIC will suffer from. More power = more heat, and therefore more retarding on timing in certain driving conditions. Other than your internals I would imaging adding meth, both as a power adder and as a way to help guard against detontation. Depending on how you're going to be driving this beast you may get away with the stock transmission components but I would certainly be looking at a new clutch.

You can't do it on pump, you'd have to run pump/meth on the street. Race gas should get you there with the right turbo. I'd hate to say it but the cheapest way to 500whp would be to mod an evo...

and fp red or rotated 35r with supporting mods should do the trick.... problem is, the supporting mods are where a lot of the $$ cost comes in...

turbo inlet
TGV's
injectors
clutch
fuel pump
upipe w/ ext gate
tial 44

etc

There are plenty of cars that have 500whp+. They have a built block and a 35r. Do some research its been done many times over.

If you are going for anything other than dyno numbers (ie any reliability) you will want too look at:

Forged internals, maybe sleeves
35R with all the trimmings
FMIC
Fuel Pump
INjectors
EM
damn good tune ($1000)

you may hit 500 without a built motor, but it will not last. If you're lucky, you'll break ringlands and be able to reuse motor parts. If not lucky, you'll break a piston and ruin the block, crank, rods, andmost expensvely - the heads.

i'm running the fpred on my ej205 set up this is a great turbo and yes you can hit 500 whp with the red and right setup, however this will be on race fuel (c16, q16). with meth and pump you could be somewhere around 450.

there was a thread on here couple days ago guy hit 536whp and 500lbs with his red. do a search it may come up.

Do u guys agree its easier to make power in an evo? Will it also be more reliable? Why get a Subie then...? Just curious...

To more succinctly answer your question: I have tuned hundreds and hundreds of Subarus, many at 500+whp. The answer to your question really depends on a few more simple questions:

(1) Are you looking for a 500whp dyno sheet?
(2) Are you actually looking to run 500whp while driving around town?
(3) Are you planning on doing track racing (open track, not drag racing)
(4) Are you planning on drag racing the car?
(5) Do you have a good source for C16 or Q16 fuel.
(6) Do you realize that 500whp is > 500 crankhp?

The answer to those questions will significantly help guide you. While an FP Red can make 500+whp, it has to be pushed very hard to do it. Take a look at this thread from more than 3 years ago: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...onaugle+fp+red

If the answer to question 1 is yes, but 2 is no, the Red will work fine. If you really want to drive around with 500whp, you will need something larger. While a 35R can do it, you would still be pushing that turbo very hard, especially on stock heads and cams.

Consider the questions I posed above, and you will be able to get more help then you expected.

Cheers,

Jeff Sponaugle

yah, its def easier and will probably be more reliable from the evo IX back. idk about the X's

subie love. brand loyalty. the rivalry. just like the car more.

most people dont buy their car knowing they are going to turn it into a 500whp+ beast.

Why 500awhp? Have you ever ridden in a 300awhp car? To get to 300awhp (which is still PLENTY fast for the street) all you need is a nice exhaust set up with some ported/polished manifold elbows, perhaps a short-ram intake, 255 fuel pump and a good tune. If you want 400awhp you will be looking at a 49-52lb/min turbo and highly recommended to swap out at least the pistons, massive injectors, FMIC and EWG. 500awhp is in no way easy if you want your motor to last. I'd recommend a GT35R .82A/R (minimal), fully built bottom end, some nice ported heads, cams and one hell of a valvtrain so you actually have a powerband you can rev to. In other words- $$$$$!

If you just purchased you're 04 STi, I'd recommend getting used to it stock then slowly add power. A strong "stage 2" setup is a very potent combination for the street and reliable. Do not forget suspension and brakes too!

uhhh on 300WHP on an 04 STI can be had with a 3.5 APS catless turbo back, 93 stage 2 cobb map, and for some cars the k&n intake is needed for the extra push, that'll get you to roughly 295-310 awhp and about 330 wtq...

<1500$ if you search... 2500 if you retail it all.
