Default Tires slipping`Bridgestone RE960's

So it's the first winter up here in NH for my baja. I put a new pair of RE960's on about 7k ago. The baja seems to slip out a lot more then I remember in the snow. Is that normal? They hold like rails on dry/wet pavement. Maybe I'd been in Virginia too long and forgotten what the snow is really like?
