Small spring on tranny fluid drain plug...what the heck is it from?

So I changed my tranny fluid recently, and when I pulled the drain plug off (I hate Subaru for using a friggen T70 torx bolt) there was a small spring on the magnet...

Now, I have a pretty good knowledge of what's inside my tranny, and I can't think of what the heck that little spring came from...does anyone have any idea? I've asked around, and no one around here seems to have a clue.

Was this so called spring threads that have been ripped out ? or is it definately a spring . because if its a spring then you have big problems ...

It's definitely a spring. It was about 1/2" long and about 1/8" thick.

Hmm, I'll have to find it again out in the garage, but it really is just a very small spring. It's definitely a spring, because of how tight the coil is. Think slinky, but really small.

alot of transmissions have detent springs but ive never taken apart an sti trans.

naw, those are way bigger than the spring that came out...the length of the entire spring was no longer than the width of the tranny drain plug's magnetic part. Seriously, the coils were touching each other and it was as springy as one of those springy door stops.

Hmmm...well, it's seems to be working ok, except reverse and first gear are hard to get into sometimes...oh well, time to start saving up for that 6mt swap.
