Default Blue oil filters

To those who buy a case of filters like I do - I just picked up some oil filters at local Subaru dealer. Didn't know it is now blue:

It is now made by Honeywell, a maker of FRAM filter. Oh well, it must be ok if Subaru made this change, but I recall them screwing up big time switching to a leaky Indian oil filter a couple of years ago. I'd say get as many black one as you can, if you can.

I'm taking these back to the dealer. I just ordered a dozen from subarugenuineparts dot com. That should last another 3 years and the verdict should be out by that time. Nothing against FRAM but I never had an issue with Tokyo Roki products. And my Baja is black too!

HORRIBLE filters.. My buddy and I just changed the oil on both our cars.. He went to put on the new BLUE oem filter, and screwed it on tight.. Normal as anyone would.. FIlled it up with 4.5qts of Royal PUrple.. Started the car, and drove about 20ft car was Spewing oil EVERYWHERE.. Lost over 2 quarts.. Shut the car off, pushed it back in..

Pulled the new filter off, and teh gasket had blown out almost halfway around the filter completely.. No it was not double ringed. Installed just as we used to with teh black filters.. STOCK UP!! I am going to subaru tomorrow with the defective one, see what they say.

Ouch. That sounds much worse than those white Indian ones. You may have just gotten a bad one, but I think you should post it on the warranty forum or somewhere so people keep an eye on them. Thanks for the report dudley.

Made by the same company that makes Fram? My mechanic warned me against using Fram, their pieces of crap.

Well, ok, sounds like everyone is on the run to get Tokyo Roki filter as far as I can read, but none conclusive whether the blue one is a crap or not... You work for a dealer right? Have you had any issues with the blue one yet? If I remember correctly, the last time SOA switched the filter, the thing turned out to be a junk. I suppose SOA tested those white ones too?

If you put the blue one on your lovely RS, I may trust it. Let us know!

That just means she put a lower quality filter on her car, not that it's going to be good to use.

Truth is, they appear to be cheaper, and less well made. However, there probably won't be too many problems with these. There are millions of people running honeywell/AlliedSignal filters our there and only a handful of horror stories.

scary.... in the referenced thread there is a picture of them. I am going to return the blue one I have on my shelf and either get an H6 filter, or a bunch of tokyo rokis
