Default Vancouver Cyclists

Some of the many stupid experiences, that you've had when dealing with the cyclists here.

Today as I was driving up my street, I met a civic halfway down a hill. The civic pulls over to let me and the car behind me pass and just as I get to the civic, the cyclist behind him thinks that he can "squeeze" between the civic and me. -_-;;

Another one is Cyclist in the right lane, crossing over the knight street bridge.

the thing that pisses me right off is when cyclists think they can take up one whole lane and ride right in the middle. i understand if its a group, but one? come on. or when they swerve around you when you are parallel parking. **** i just want to fling my door open.... oops!

Cyclists are quite annoying when they attempt to climb up a hill in rush hour...

The only thing that pisses me off with cyclists is when they ride on the street and they do not follow the rules of the road.

Yeah, he needs to get his rear brakes fixed, then those cyclists can "enjoy your cancer" while clearing out all the carbon from the powertrain.

The reason they might be doing that is because they fed up with people who goes too close to them not leaving enough space when they pass . They are trying to take dominant lane positions like motorcycles do and they forceing the cars to go the other lane .
It's really a no win situation for cyclist or any other riders in downtown . I'm a trials rider but I know the roady mentality but they're just trying to protect they're own ass .
Look out for flingin doors cause I been there done that .Twice .
It was not fun .

That's true. when I ride, I tend to ride around the bike routes. There should be 1 meter when passing any rider. But when they do the stupid stuff like that cyclist putting himself between two passing cars in a narrow street. They are asking for trouble.

On the Vancouver Bike route into guide. It clearly says which bridges you may use the roadway and which should be on the walkway.

Lions gate - required sidewalks, prohibited roadway
Second Narrows - required sidewalks, prohibited roadway
Burrard Street - required widewalk, prohibited roadway
Granville street - required roadway
Cambie street - may use roadway or east sidewalk
Arthur Laing - Allowed roadway / paved shoulder
Oak Street - required sidewalk, prohibited roadway
Knight street - required sidewalk, prohibited roadway

Just because your cycling doesn't mean, you shouldn't plan the route you are about to take. As well as gather the required information about how to get to your destination safe.

I think there are WAY more complaints with how people drive around bikes and motorbikes than with the bikes themselves.

My biggest complaint about bikes (motorcycles) are the ones with the loud exhausts.

Ditto, as a pedestrian I am not a huge fan of loud obnoxious exhausts but in the car I don't mind. Harleys are excessive though for in town.

I can understand it a little. But roaring off the line with loud exhaust in a very busy public place isn't something that's needed.

I think there are just as many guilty parties in this Nasioc community of doing that...although the deep grumble is definitely better than the buzz, or the chop chop.

When a chopper goes by and my ears start bleeding, ringing..or... my kids get woken from their sleep screaming (I live on the 6th floor) even with when the windows closed...
is the only time I wish I had a gun.
The cops won't do anything about it either. They just stand at Tim's dinking their coffee.
I am fine with noise, but there are limits.

As for cyclist: I ride to work as often as possible. But something absolutely mystifies me, the number of riders that ignore the basic laws of physics. Guess who wins when a car makes contact with a rider...?

+1. You'd be surprised the attitude many of them have. They feel they are saints, and relish the opportunity to 'unleash the beast' when they feel they have been wronged.

But they are just a person on a bike. Road ragers have 3000+ pounds of fury. They say the bigger the car the smaller the brain.

That's usually the case.

I used to commute to work on my bike and I do touring with my bike and when there is no shoulder for our bikes to go on it is safer to come out more to stop drivers from passing too close to us.

It is quite unfortunate that Vancouver doesn't have more bike lanes.

The weather is getting nicer, I am almost done rebuilding my bike for my commute to work

I think cyclists should have some form of insurance. It's BS that they share the road, yet are pretty much not liable for anything.

Sums it up perfectly for me. Don't understand what gave them the idea that they can be both a vehicle on the road and a pedestrian at the same time.

Almost ran over a cyclist at a 4 way stop because he just darted in front of me and had the balls to yell at me. I gave him a verbal lashing so epic he would be telling his grandchildren about it.
