I'm interested to see where people have mounted their AccessPorts in their car. Please provide a picture and described what you used and how difficult it was to install. Hopefully this will give members idea's and examples for future mounts.

I used this type s cell phone thingy I found at Pep Boys. At first it wasn't wide enough, so I got mad and forced it wider. I thought I broke it but ever since then it holds the AP nice and tight. Its just held on with 2-sided tape. This is the only photo I have at the moment. (sorry for the size)

On the lgtforums.com someone took their v2 AP apart and put the unit/screen up in the DIN where the clock is. Looked very good! As for the buttons he wired them down by the radio.

I guess I am missing something. Why would you want to mount your access port? The wires would get in the way getting in and out of my car due to the placement of the OBD.
Is there a need to have it on all the time? |

I see ur point, however, those who paid 700 bucks I would think would want to use it to it's full potential. The AP does have awesome features. As for the wires, with a little creativity u can make it look good. I'll post mine wants I'm done.

You shouldn't have to re-locate the OBD2 plug, the plug in wire should have the wire coming out of it sideways so it doesn't hang down...

Do you leave the AP in the car? The old APv1 didn't do well in the heat.

IF! i still had my 02.. and IF! i had an access port.. I'd embed it in the ash tray.
I used to put my mp3 player in there and just close the ashtray to hide it from sight (dont want someone to break in and steal it). In my new 09, i dont think i HAVE an ashtray.. *thinks* |

I bought 4 of these to mount my v2 and ipod in the wrx and 2 for suv to hold ipod and blackberry. The bottom has wide opening so there is no fitment issue with the usb and av out cords. You get the brackets for the vents and suction cup, seems to hold up in southeast georgia so far ![]() Last edited by reconracer; 05-11-2009 at 09:33 PM. |

Does the piece that plugs into the OB2 port get in the way?

I don't have a pic because I traded in my WRX for a 09 STI, but mine was mounted in my 07 with a mobile phone mount like some of the pics in this thread. Ran my cable from the OBDII through the steering wheel area to the left hand vent. I was able to hide the cable pretty flawlessly in the seam where the upper dash meets the lower drivers side dash. You just shove the cable in there and leave the USB connector hanging out. Use zip ties to secure the extra cable length to the wires under the steering wheel so nothing hangs down where you can snag it with your feet. Got the mount from Best Buy for about $15.

i have that same exact type-s universal phone/mp3 holding device in my 08. i used the double sided tape to mount it between my two vents. it sits low enough to where i can still see and use all stereo functions.
i dont use my AP all the time, only once in awhile. for example when i first got it i used it here and there for a couple days. then when i went stage 2, same deal. the nice thing about the Type S holder thing is it kind of matches the interior of my 08 so it doesnt look too out of place. it holds my samsung blackjack just fine as well. the wire from the dongle to the AP can be a tad annoying, but just be careful with your feet/legs when driving and you will be fine. btw, i NEVER exit my car without my AP. |
