Exclamation Header actually made for an 2.5i

Hello

I have posted a similar thread on other subbie sites to gather interest on a group buy for a made to fit 2.5i engine UEL header this would be made for a Legacy 2.5i however the Legacy 2.5i and Impreza from 07+ have the same manifold to mid pipe section so this should fit both car in this MY range. The vendor informed that it could be easily made and I informed him if he got a large enough demand would he consider making a batch (50 im guessing) so this thread is to garner interest if you would like be considered for a 2.5i MY 07+ header add your name to this list and I will fwd it to the vendor.

I would be interested if I knew some more specs (pricing, material, etc.) and who the vendor is.

This isnt a commit to buy only a list to show that people are interested nothing more it is 07+ because the majority of people interested are 07+ owners but he said all 2.5i models

What size will the primaries (secondaries?) and collector be? Will it be resonant wave tuned for the EJ253? If not, is it going to be UEL? Lots of info one would want/need to know before saying if they were interested or not. and 2.5i's are 06+... but you should verify that the collector location and flange orientation is common between all years 2.5i's to avoid confusion.

in 4 1.
Also want to know the details in the design: EL/UEL, Cat arrangement, Collector.
Like above mentioned, should be 06/07 2.5i.

ok ok ok lots of question let me start by saying first off I will gather interest which is the purpose of this thread. Second I will take my car down for testing mock up etc we will also get a 07 impreza for the same purposes once we confirm that fitment is universal we will go ahead with a test header collector sizes will be similar to exisiting header sizes. THe design will mirror the LGT/WRX header the OEM cat will be in the cross pipe section with o2 bungs for stock sensor location it will have the three bolt flange so it can bolt right up to stock locations Primaries should have ID of 1 7/8 inches collecting into one 2.5 inch collector. Think of a LGT/WRX stock manifold now put a cat in the cross pipe section with bungs adn angle the two bolt UP flange down with three bolts for stock fitment

You know, we have been waiting for this for a long time. Integrated CAT earlier upstream is the key to a clean design w/no CEL.

^Agreed.

The only reason I haven't changed to an RS style EL header was because of the cat, and not wanting to clear CELs all the time .

Does this fab'er/vendor have the facilities available to do proper annealing after welding, or will it crack after a year?

If it is a tuned EL proper header, I would definitely buy one. Not too interested in an UEL for reasons we will not discuss for fear of contamination the thread.

A design taht mirrors the LGT/WRX manifold may not make good/any gains, especially if its a 2.5" collector outlet, since the stock manifold has an EL design and improves gas velocity at low end. so top end gains will probably be the only thing that will be made, and that is IF the UEL design doesnt destroy the effiency

I would be interested in a UEL that would allow one not to have to change the OEM catpipe.

I already have a stromung CBE but have stayed away from UEL's cause I don't feel like spending a ton of money on an after market stromung, randomtech or rallisportracing catpipe, etc.

So in essence, these would be like SHORTY UEL's.

What "Vendor" is making these?

Why put the cat in the cross pipe section!? the space there is limited as it is, your best bet would to have the main cat relocated to the 2nd "non-functional" cat section. So that people have a choice of running or not running a cat. that's just my 2 cents.

Well we have the first 15 people lined to so now it is time to mock/test out ideas the best one and the closest one will mirror LGT/WRX style headers and will be a direct bolt to stock mid pipe this will give the buyer the choice of CBE. Leaving the cat near stock location means you want need extensions to make your existing o2 senosor work thos goal was to make it truely bolt on and i think we will have that.

Thanks for the ideas this thread can be closed now and once finsihed ill post up pics etc

i'd like to know more about this...

and for the headers situation, honestly... these are gonna have to be expensive since they're gonna have to have a cat and bungs for o2 sensors. especially if theyre using a hfc in their setups.

HFC cats to suppliers are CHEAP you can find them on the web for under $50 so that would be the most expensive part of the header tubing is a joke flanges are made from plates steel all of which is cheap. The cost comes from the manufacturer the more people wanting to buy the cheaper
the less more its pretty simple oh and o2 bungs might be $1 wholesale/per

There is no code to cancel the CEL forever... RomRaider allows the user to disable almost any of the CEL's from illuminating the dash light, however the CEL still occurs in the ECU, so if its something critical to engine function, it will make the necessary changes, like going into limp mode. Fortunately for the common header/HFC CEL (P0420), nothing is affected. So diabling the P0420 DTC will make it like it bever happened as far as the driver is concerened.

The earlier post by the OP said that the header design is going to "mirror" the LGT/WRX header design, so if that is true it will be very UEL. Which is unfortunate because a EL design that has nice quality welds and uses good stainless, at a price-point between the OBX and the TWE offerings, could be a great seller.

We know that EL is more efficient this header is for all the user that want the rumble and a change from the stock WE know that EL is better however the demand is for UEL on every site with N/A this is just an attempt to supply those people that want bolt on and not a RS header for the newer stock exhaust layout no need to flame me I know all that you are gonna say just save it not trying to say one is better than the other just IF YOU WOULD LIKE ONE EXPRESS YOUR INTREST if not shut the EFF up

That is only true in the case of the 16-bit ECU, which does not apply to any N/A car tuneable in RomRaider (all use the 32-bit ECU). You disable the CEL in your car, it is disabled completely as far as the ECU is concerned. The only issue is that if it is relative to some sensor input, for example, and that input is now off or out of range because the sensor was removed, the ECU may react to that input as if the data was accurate, which may have some response. The typical scenario with Subaru is the removal of the rear o2 which will cause you to run richer in closed loop.
