Apparently it acts like a chemical clear-coat that guarantees the paint finish for 5 years -- no need to wax the car for 5 years.

It feels like a layer of shellac over the paint. There were no swirl marks on the paint, so I doubt it was applied with a spinning wheel.

Other people were reporting problems with paint chipping on their 2008/9 WRX. My car has experienced none in the first 7k miles.

Here is an example of what I mean by DGM looking different under different sky conditions.

This is my DGM WRX on a sunny day. It looks like a rich dark-chocolate color:

Here is the same car on an overcast day. It looks gray rather than chocolate-brown:

On rainy days this color lightens up even more. It's pretty cool how that works.
