You are going to need some thicker skin. It was a dumb question. No big deal, but some people are going to point that out. It does not make them a "douche" or make you an idiot.

well, like i mentioned in my prior post: my mistake was that i didnt do a search. that was MY BAD. and you are right that certain people do want to point things out. i was fine with that. i just believe in mutual respect.

2009 Subaru WRX Sedan
SPT exhaust
Cobb springs.
Only mods done to the car.

So i was commuting home from work last night around 6pm going 80mph in 5th gear. As i was almost home i heard a knocking sound from the engine somewhere. I immediately called subaru and took my car in this morning.

So they tell me my short block needs to be replaced and that my car was low on 1 quart or a little under a quart of oil. And wanted to know if i had any receipts to the oil changes on my car. Well problem here is ive been changing the oil on my car myself. I do it every 4,000 miles and i baby the car for the most part. Will this void/get denied for coverage under warranty? i only have 20,000 miles on the car so the coverage is still active? Problem is i dont have any documentation on my car services (oil changes, tire rotations, etc.)

Anyone have any recommendations as to what i should tell them or what i should do? I havent beaten on the car to say it was my fault. I babied it for the most part and gassed it occasionally.

I NEED SOME HELP/ REPLIES ASAP please.

Yes, they can deny warranty claims if you cannot pull up the receipts of all oil and filter purchases. Anyone that does changes themselves should keep them well documented.

BTW

If you have had any failures in your 08+ models, file a complaint with NHTSA. Here is the link: Do your part and maybe Subaru of America will start standing behind their cars instead of putting owners through hardship.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

I have noticed only about 5 2009 WRX, 3-4 2008 STI and 1 2009 STI on the website. With such a widespread issue EVERYONE that has had an issue should be putting something to the website and report it.

when mine went, I checked my logbook for the date that I did the oil changes on. Then I went to Advance Auto (where I bought the stuff) and had them electronically search for reciepts from that day for the filter SKU that I bought. They found all three of my receipts for oil/filter, which I provided to the dealer. So depending on where you bought the stuff, they may be able to look it up and reprint.

Or just ask them to find ANY sales of the WRX filter model (yours or someone else's) and tell the dealer they're yours...

Now I just keep the receipts in the logook....I also document it on MySubaru.com or whatever that site is....

Call SoA for step one.

And yes, they can deny your claim if you don't have proof of care, which is a total pain in the ass. I'll be curious to see how things work out for you, as we're starting to get on the sharp end of this whole adventure: high mileage, slightly modified motors going, but most likely caused by a manufacturing defect.

Subaru of America, if you are listening, my future buisness depends on how these people are treated.

Adam Sosa,
I believe all the 2009's have the 36,000 mile warranty on them. This should not be an issue since as far as this "known issue" with the bearings blowing out is concerned has been no questions asked, but they check the oil. Like mine had little copper peices in it from the bearings on the crank shaft. Only that when the 3 out of 4 blew I was right on 10,000 miles. You're still under coverage though. Ask them if changing the oil has anything to do with blowing out bearings that have been known to destroy alot of 2009 WRX engines...

Oh, and tell them that the service manager never filled out the book when you brought your car in at whatever location is nearest to you that's not where you're taking it, lol. I give the guy a hard time and make him sign that damn thing since he forgot once so it's a joke between us. Well, that and I had my frickin' engine blow on a brand new car!
