I installed mine on saturday and it was really really easy.

For anyone thinking about getting these all you have to do is-
-Unplug the two wires from your stock horn
-cut enough wire (I used speaker wire) to reach where you want to mount the new horns.
-expose enough wire (On the stock wire) to splice in two wires on each (Positive and negative for each of the 2 horns)
-Crimp a connector on the other end of these wires (Total of 4) to plug into the hella horns.
-Test the horns before you mount
-Find where you want to mount the horns, and if it's behind the grille, wire tie them into place and put the grille on to check the clearance.
-bolt them up however you want and your done!

I didn't bother using the relay they supplied, they seem to be working fine.

Hope this helps any of you on the fence! It took maybe 20 mins?

On a side note, they are a lot louder then expected and only get these if you don't mind having the loudest horns on the road. Next person I honk at is going to be very mad......

I mounted mine on Saturday night before a trip into chicago. it took me longer to decide where to mount than anything else in the whole process. I tried them in a few places before deciding to go off of the center mount where one stock horn was and then relocated my beeper...

Wiring it this way decreases the actual voltage going to the horns, meaning the decibel levels are a lot lower than they could be. Use a relay and proper wiring, otherwise you're wasting the good money you spent on the horns.

Haha, I don't know if I want/need them any louder if it's possible to make it louder. They are already loud as hell.

Thanks though, I was waiting to see what the drawbacks were of me wiring them up the way that I did.

Are people getting the ones made in germany? I have heard there are a few different types of supertones and the german ones are what people seem to like best.

I am not disputing this, but can you explain why? The hellas require a 12v supply and from my understanding that is what the stock horn relay is providing??

Will order in the morning but did anyone have to make a mounting bracket?

I have a 95 legacy so I don't know if I need to or not it's going to be behind the grill.

Hella Horns have been produced in India for quite some time now. The German ones are no longer made..

I have the India model, and believe me, they are plenty loud.

It's getting 12V, but not the current necessary to drive the horn. Basically (from my understanding of what's been posted, don't have them yet) the skinny factory wiring is the culprit. By using the relay, you use the factory wiring as the trigger, and the horns get a nice, short fat pipe of current straight from the nearby battery.

well then the bottle neck would be what kind of wire you run from the switch to the horns or from the battery to the switch... so what gauge wire is needed to make it worth while to use the switch?

Some quick searching rates each horn around 75W. So that's 150W for 2 horns (assuming you use just 2). Current needed is I = P/V = 150/12 = 12.5 Amps (or there about). Using this table of wire sizes and their current-carrying abilities, anything larger than 20 gauge should be sufficient. Personally, I'd pick up some 14 gauge or 16 gauge at Wal-Mart and call it a day.

Well the stock gauge I think is 18, at least 20 - I am trying to think what the smallest is on my stripping tool since I used the second smallest - if this is the case then stock wiring should be efficient then correct?
