Kudos on the award but I really must agree that this thing is unapologetically hideous to look at. I just can't believe that a product designer somewhere at subaru finished drawing that and thought it was a good idea.

UGLY. But after driving the base model for a week as a loaner, I'm liking it more and more.
This is especially after noticing how much more leg and headroom it has in the front and back. I don't have to worry about crushing anyone's legs or knees sitting behind me to get myself comfortable. Also, it's higher ground clearance is nice. But not too high I can't get my grandma-in-law to get in; she has leg trouble and I have a handicap sign for when she's riding with me. My wife, mom-in-law, grandma-in-law and I all load up and take it in comfort. Yeah, I'm their personal chauffeur. Although I prefer the '09 loaner I had previous, the leg room isn't nearly as plentiful. And my wife loves the 2010. Even though, IT IS UGLY. |

I just test drove one of these, cause the wife commented she liked the look of them. I am 99.9% sure this will be her next car. I LOVED it!

Even better, Google Subaru BRAT.
Congratulations to Subaru for winning two years in a row. Considering that Subaru is a relatively low volume manufacturer with probably lower R&D bandwidth than bigger companies this is impressive. And it's not just MT's review, the market has spoken too as Subaru has weathered the rough market just fine. And I love the picture of the 2010 Outback getting air time. I must admit I'm an old school Subaru person who is a little hostile to what Subaru has been doing lately but I just may still entertain an MT Outback... Last edited by jey; 10-26-2009 at 02:41 PM. |

Wife and I test Drove a 2.5 Manual and CVT back to back.
We both found the 6 SPEED Manual to add more fun value as the CVT was really vaque feeling with the pseudo paddles shifters. It almost felt like it was shifting a big elastic band. There was a noticeable CVT transmission whine as well--which is common for CVT. May have to test the 3.6R but the price point is alot higher and 256 HP out of a 3.6R is pretty low. A bunch of manufactures are outputting 300HP+ with 3.5-3.8L of N/A displacement. Interior was well laid out and Materials are decent for price point Ride was really quiet except the CVT whine Road bumps were not really felt through the chasis/steering wheel Loads of features on base model In Canada more so than the US base The Clutch is sure an improvement over our past 2006 WRX Over all the Outback is a very capable --haul a bunch of crap--- kind of vehicle which we need. May be picking up one in the future just not sure which model to get. Good Job Subaru |

^^Looks like fun^^ - there is another thread somewhere about concerns with the new roof rack. Did you happen to check one out? Maybe you could answer some of the concerns in the roof rack thread (I can't remember where it was on here or I'd post the link).
Did you drive an OB on the trails or anything? I'm going for a test drive one day this week.....but not an 'adventurous' test drive (at least, not planned.....) Last edited by Knotsure; 10-25-2009 at 02:07 PM. Reason: clarity |

The cars just seem to be getting bigger! This Outback is a far cry from the Outbacks of yore. But its nice to see they are still around the same starting price (within 4-5k) and the way technology has progressed they are a better buy than ever before. Still though, how big are these cars going to get? Remember when the Forester was still "kinda" a car?
