The EJ257 shortblock is toast now too?
or was this back on the Tomei setup? Last edited by Homemade WRX; 11-03-2009 at 05:23 PM. Reason: wrong JDM yo! setup |

yea, the stock EJ257 didn't knock, but its blowing enough blue smoke that i retired it before it blew up. I think new rings and bearings and a rebuild will do her fine, but i also have the tomei stroker kit rebuilt for the ej207.
I'm racing my subaru engines on a 10-race hour rebuild cycle. |

so every 10 race hours you are yanking and refreshing?
How bad are you internals actually looking after such a short time? Mostly asking about your bearings? |

What fuel are you using? Do you think changing bearing clearances will make them last longer?

Bearings are fine for that amount of time.. rings, stock pistons.. clearly not up to the task.
Strange really.. the EJ was designed back in what, the 80s and evolved from 125hp to 300 with few geometric changes.. (sarcasm) |

PS- I bet we/anyone could do 2 seasons on a single factory short block at high boost were it not for pistons/rings. This statement is not ignoring the factory+track bearing clearance issues that seem to propagate from various sources.

3 Subaru motors were lost at the last track day I went to. Probably all rod bearings.
