STI lamps are in no way equal intensity or width output to TL's. The only good thing about the JDM STI lamp setup is the 3" lens which is transferable to a handful of other 3" projectors (TL, ZKW, etc). The projector is garbage

These shields are $190 and a set of TSX's can be had off ebay for the same if not less.

Are you comparing the halogen or the HID projectors to the TL's?

As far as the conversion shields...
As stated earlier in this thread, if you're handy and have a dremel pick up some TSX, FX, S2K projectors and retrofit them into the JDM housings. It's not terribly difficult, just take your time and do it right. There is plenty of information available to get it done yourself.

As for the TL's, I've got a set with ZKW lenses that I'm curious to see if they'll fit into the housings. My initial guess is that they will not, but I'm still going to find out

i think mine have been somehow flipped or converted they are just projectors, i thought they were edm for correct cutoff, but they use the 6-pin leveler switch ??? doesn't that mean they are jdm? (edm had 4-pin switches right?)

i can see how these would help if you wanted to keep your jdms halogen, but if you are going to go hid, you need to do the retro fit so you will have the correct lens module for the hid bulb.
for the people that havent done the proper conversion, get off your ass and do it. the conversion isnt that hard and you wont mess up your lamps in the oven unless you are retarded and use too much heat or leave them in way too long. heres some pics of how i did mine...

jdm projectors fully disassembled..

jdm bracket un-modified

modified brackets...

bracket fabbed for right /left adjustment...

tsx modules in modified bracket...

fully assembled modules

assembled modules installed in the housing

from the back...

finished product...
