The awd turbo boxer 4 had me sold from the get go. I had also heard that they were on the way up in a major way in terms of the tuner car market.

Default My first subie (and first post)

I had a buddy whose dad bought cars at auction, fixed them. then sold them. My buddy, his brother, and I were at an auction and we bid on a GL that had been smashed by a tree and won it for just $100!

So friends' dad towed it home for us (I had just turned 15) and we proceeded to strip it. Fenders, hood, all the doors, bumpers, then we got a sawzall and torch out and removed the whole roof and windshield at the pillar bases.

We would take that thing out to all the old logging roads and just tear **** up! That's how I learned to drive and to wrench. We rolled that thing several times (I still can't believe that we survived without serious injury) but it was so light that we would just flip it back over. The first time we rolled it the fuel pump deactivated (can't remember now if it had a switch or it just died), so we put a drip feed straight into the carb from a gas can to get it home.

Eventually it began to sag in the middle from the lack of half of the structure and the drive shaft started hitting the body. We took the shaft out and rallied front wheel for a short while, but by then we had gotten licenses and got into Toyota trucks instead.

Now I am on my fifth scooby (including the GL), a 94 loyale wagon, 99 OBS, 97 Legacy OB, and a 08 OBS and can't imagine owning any other kind of car.

i wanted AWD & turbo for my next car

A4 - nicer interior, but heavier & less HP -> about $3,500 to get 300WHP ish
wrx - decent seats, more HP, more aftermarket parts -> about $1,200 to get 300WHP ish

Bought the wrx....

Default It was either the WRX or a salvaged S2K for me.

Came with coilovers, short shifter, rims, race tires sound system, navigation and mileage slightly under 29k.

Was missing heatshield, interior smelled like weed and had a couple of small noticeable dents on the exterior.

Dealer wanted $21 g, settled for $18 g cuz of the mods done to the car. The next day I find the insurance quote for it $$$$!!! My expression = priceless.

Now, the sad thing is... When I went from my 1998 Legacy 2.5GT to my 2002 WRX Wagon, the insurance went DOWN. Go figure.

For me: Subarus have more personality than a lot of Japanese sport compacts. The Evo may be faster/sharper but the feel, sound, and looks are pretty blah.

There are many things that have drawn me in as of recently. I love how they look in general because they all have that raw rally and rugged feel to them but more importantly they are AWD, turbo and fun to drive.

For me it was a number of things. The STIs sporting heritage, the reliability, AWD, seats more than two, and the practicality.

I had come from just owning two door, two seat sports cars and having just gotten engaged at the time I was anticipating that my now wife would insist I get a more practicle car. So, heading off the Camry or mini-van at the pass I decided to get the STI before I got more. I got an enthusiast car and could still point and say "look it's got four doors, seats five (tightly), has AWD, is reliable and has the highest govt' crash ratings.:"

Win! 4 years and 1 kid later my strategy seems to have worked. Car seat in the STI and still no minivan in the garage!

I was cross-shopping an 06 STi, 08 Evo, and 2010 WRX for the last couple months. The 06 STi is getting old and I don't want any problems with my next car so thats out.

So then it was down to the Evo X and '10 WRX. I can pick up a lightly used Evo X (20K miles) for about the same price as ordering a brand new '10 WRX with no miles on it so thats in favor of the WRX. Also the insurance will be cheaper on the WRX and gas mileage is better on the WRX.

However, the Evo responds way better to mods than the WRX does (330whp with TBE/tune on the Evo X). I'm leaning toward the WRX though because of the newness of it and being able to order the exact options I want.

Subaru didn't, it was more Colin McCrae. I remember trying to find footage and information about him pre-internet...it wasn't easy.

Anyway, I always loved rally, (over nascar) and when I went into the dealership I saw the car and just had to test drive it. The test drive was uneventful until the guy told me to step on it a little. Well, that was probably what sold me.

I'd say I'm hooked.

My wife drove a 97 Impreza. It was a basic car and had nothing but AWD and a stick. I didn't like it until I drove it to work for something. I can't remember why I drove it..Huh...that really bugs me lol. Anyway, the roads were not plowed at all. It handled better than my 05 F150 FX4. The traction was amazing and that thing was awesome on gas. I still wasn't sold though.

Early last year I took in a Red 06 WRX Limited w/ manual tran. I thought it looked awesome. I didn't think much else about it. I had seen commercials about the Sti when I was younger and I always thought it was cool but never drew the connection.

I had been trying to get her into a Mercury Milan. A nice sophisticated car in it's own right. She wasn't having any of that.

We finally went on a test drive in the WRX. Holy ****! It was AWESOME. I fell in love INSTANTLY. I wanted her in that car! The power was insane. The grip was like nothing I've ever driven. It was nimble like a cat on velcro!

After she bought it I bought my 08 Sport Trac Adrenalin. It's a badass truck and I've never seen one like it around here. Other than that...it's not that cool to me anymore. Here is why; I couldn't get any aftermarket goodies! Nothing! I waited months before I could mod it!

After doing some research on her WRX and finding this forum, I really wish that I had bought the new generation STI. If I could go back I would do it. I would go back to April or May of 08 and I would go buy an STI.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck but, for me, the power, handling and most importantly, the Subaru community is leagues better than the Ford ones, unless you like Mustangs. Even then...STI > Mustang GT...maybe even > GT500.

Rally America and years of volunteering for the Steamboat segment (Rally Colorado, or what use to be COG).

The past couple of years the steamboat coordinator allowed my cousin and I to be "heavy sweep" with my dad's duramax chevy truck. Steamboat is known for some crazy weather conditions and the fast courses which lead to some nasty wreaks.

Needless to say we pulled a few of those wrx's out from some deep fall offs, up on to its tires after COUNTLESS rolls end over end, and back up to the road only for those boxer engines to start up on the first try and idly purrr waiting for the next stage... FUC*ING AWESOME.

Still gets me everytime and makes me proud to own my wrx wagon.

After I watched this video in december 2007,I pulled the trigger sight unseen.
However; It took almost 1 month locked in a room at the manhattan beach Marriot, for 12 hours daily, using coffee, tobacco ,ephedrine, for constant non stop contact with internet/fleet managers from coast to coast to find my OBP Sti.
It was near january 08 when I ''landed the deal''.
A few things;#1- I never even knew what an STi was till this video.
When I picked my STi up in so cal,I left my other car[04 honda element] in the dealers parking lot w/ engine running.
The dealership called me to tell me ''they secured it'',I subsequently retrieved it with a
pal.....2 months later LOL.

...And IDK who the dealership was that submitted the vid,but the jingle at the end is FTL.

well, it was back in may 2008. i had to give up the car my parents let me drive because my sister needed the car for work. i didnt want to keep fighting for the car so i decided to go get my own. i had the money, i just need the car. so i went searching. my requirements for the car i wanted was as follows.
1) 4 door sedan
2) 5 or 6 speed manual transmission
3) All Wheel Drive
4) Inexpensive.
5) Looks good
6) Sunroof (optional)

well, i looked at Volvo, Audi, BMW, Saab, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and Nissan. at that time, i thought of subarus as "worse than hondas" (boy was i ever wrong about that!) none of them met my requirements, except Audi. but that was way out of my price range. ok, so lets take AWD out of the question. Mitsubishi and Nissan was my two choices left. Mitsubishi Lancer GTS vs Nissan Sentra SER Spec V. just as i was about to make my decision, my parents pulled me accross the street to another dealership. Subaru.

at first, i didnt like any of the cars. but the salesman insisted that we go for a test drive first then decide. ok fine. lets go with a wrx. got in, drove it, loved it. then realized the wrx was out of my price range so i went for the impreza. surprisingly i still loved the little N/A so much more than any of the other cars ive looked at. so to be honest, the salesman didnt do a lot to sell me. the car did all the work.

Think, Feel, Drive i believe that fits perfectly with what subarus are. all my friends that have driven my car, loved it much more than their own, dispite theirs being more expensive, more powerful, more luxurious, and/or more aggressive looking. funny thing was, none of them thought anything of subarus until they drove it =p. the only regret i have is not getting the WRX xD but! thats for a few years down the road.
