You will love the Koni's. My buddy had the exact setup on his wagon before he sold it for a freaking 2007 Civic Si.

I really wish I could ride in one, but from talking with Myles, and tons of reading and researching, that combo seems to be the best choice for performance, street manners, and all around capability. Now to see if the spring rates will need or support a 22mm sway bar set, or 24mm? I am torn on this, as I am realizing that I don't want to kill its street manners, but that all changes on the track, when I hate coming in second. I mean it is first loser.

Last event, I was around 2 secs off a 2008 WRX sedan with the larger 2.5, headers, stage 2, tuned, Hoosier DOT's, on Cusco coilovers. And mine on Potenza RE-01Rs and bone stock susp. I don't think the 08 driver was driving that good, but I was still pretty proud of the wagon for holding her own like it did. Now with this setup, I want to win ESP up there.

2 seconds is still a lot but not out of reach from your current setup. You'll be happy with it. Oh and go 24mm if you can.

Autocrossing for as long as I have, I realize 2 secs is really an eternity. But I believe DOT's, esp. Hoosiers that are new, should be worth .75 secs on a 60 sec course. Good suspension should be worth .5-.75, and a tune should be worth a little more. This is keeping in mind that ESP rules only allow stock boost, but I would like to get some more area under the curve.

Yeah, they usually have the start line pretty well marked. You pre-park in grid, then you drive up to the start, and they wave you off. If you get lost between grid and the start line, just ask for directions. And definately DO NOT try to start at the finish. You and the competitor on course will not like the outcome.

But seriously, SCCA is the largest. NASA does some, but Central Carolina Region SCCA is a fairly large region, and does a large number of events. There should be some in your area. James, Josh, and some others would probably know more about the auto-x's in the area. Go out and try it, but be careful, it is addicting.

Alot of people complain that it is a lot of waiting for 4-6 mins of seat time. But it is a great way to learn car control skills that are relevant to everday and higher speed events as well.

True as well. I'd have to say, I'm one of those people. I'd much rather (and will eventually) do a track day on a road course BUT... Travis is absolutely right - autox is a perfect place to start and get your swerve on.
Good times. We should all get together for the next one.

You will learn a good bit at autox but you will learn the most at an instructed HPDE track day.

Having auto-x'ed for 11 yrs, and done trials and Solo I's at Roebling Road and CMP, and hillclimbs at Beech and Blueridge, I can say that autocross should be a starting point for everyone. I am still trying to get my wife out. My point with her is not competition, but to get the car out of shape, see how it acts, and how to get it back underneath you. For her, I am more wanting her to learn to control an out of control vehicle, not lock up and shut her eyes and scream. I will drive a car all the way to the scene of the wreck.

But, having done autocross and highspeed, if you really go to learn and be humble and listen to others, you will get so much more out of it. Ask someone to show you exactly what they are looking at when they are walking the course. Watch the cars run different parts when you are working course instead of talking about your runs or bs'ing. (From a Solo Safety Steward standpoint, this one burns me up to see a hot course with people floating around like there are marshmellows on course.)

Autocross in the wet and the dry. The wet will teach you to slow down your inputs, slow hands and feet. The dry will teach you when to push, how hard, and how to interpret what the car is trying to tell you. Every car will speak to you, it is just up to you if you listen.

Go there to have fun. Don't be worried about times at first. 95% of people there are some of the best people you could ever meet. Consider that at the SCCA Nationals, if a competitor car breaks, people line up to offer their cars so that they can compete. But go out, have fun, be safe, and start saving. Tires, travel and entry fee aren't cheap.
