Feder's Subaru NY 10940
I had been in Feder's Subaru many times to looks at new models in their show room as they are the closest to my area. When I walk in it usually, makes me feel unwanted. The representatives usually just stay behind their desks as if they all lost their voices. After a few minutes a person from a totally different department, once a mechanic, finally greets and welcomes me.
At first I was planning to buy a new 08 Impreza, but I still not like the new body style. So, I decided to buy an certified 06-07 Impreza Wagon.
I consistently checked their web site for any new arrivals, and found a "certified" 07 Wagon in red. I loved everything about the car, but the carfax told a different story about the car. I found out it was a rental far away.
I quickly came to the dealership and asked whether or not that car has been sold. They told me that it was not and asked me if I wanted to see it in their lot. I took my time while I looked at the car. I easily noticed that the it had brand new rear tires and the pads were shot. This gave me an indication that this car might of been abused. While I looked closer, one of the rear disks had a huge grove in it and the others had barely any life to them at all. As, I test drove it in the back of their dealership, I noticed that loud grinding noises coming from the back. The sales rep. told me that they will do a full inspection to make sure that "every think is okay." I decided to come back another time. I did my homework, and found that many other dealerships in the area was offering the same model with less millage and a private owner for about a thousand less. So I printed several copies to make a deal with Feder's Subaru.
I came back to the same sale rep. and offered them a very reasonable price, which a little lower, about two hundred dollars less, than the other dealerships. I offered less as it was a rental and the car's history was not known, considering to near dealerships. They would only lower it by $250. At first I thought it was a joke as others wanted $2,000 less for this vehicle. They would not even try to match it and look at the other dealerships. They told me "I, the sale rep., am not going to make any money on this deal", "the manager will not go any lower and will not look at any more offers" and the most famous "those are only internet/special prices which Feder's do not count." Now, the sales rep. started to become angry and pushy. I just simply walked out and laugh.
One day after, I received a phone call from the sale rep. that they will match my offer. So when I came they offered me the same price as before when I walked out. They just wanted me to come to their dealership, hoping that I will change my mind. I restated the offer that I wanted and they would not even come closer to match it. The sale rep, became extremely pushy and angry, that the only thing I could do is walk out.
I also check their other "certified" cars, and noticed that about 90% of them were rentals. This is how they can get low millage cars and newer models. Sometimes dealerships will sell or loan cars to rental companies to advertise. They will buy them back at a very low price and sell them for huge profit.
A few months came by and still saw that same car as I pass by to work. Every time I passed I had a huge smile on my face. If they treated customers more friendlier and did not want to make huge profits of so called "Certified" cars, they would easily sell more cars. I can't belive that they are a "steller" dealership.
