Update a 2002 WRX Gauge Cluster with 2004 Cluster

I was at the Subaru lot for a scheduled maintenance and was looking at the 2004 WRX's. To my surprise Subaru finally put the tach where it should be, right in the middle of the gauge cluster. I have 2002 WRX Wagon and was curious if anyone was aware of how one might update to the new "tach-in-the-middle" cluster or if they know anyone who has already.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think he means the WRX one rather than the STi.

Less problems as the sistem is more compatible!

To be honest I didn't even think of the STI because of the addition gadgets involved. I thought the WRX gauge cluster would be a pretty simple swap though. Reading over the above link I have some concerns about the mileage being reset as I don't want to do any irreversable damage to what is an otherwise good setup.

But I do appreciate the info from infulleffect. It at least gave me an idea of what I should be looking at as far as installation, cost and possible problems, so thanks much.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Bump....

I'd like to update my '02 cluster with an '04 cluster. From what my research shows, it's fairly plug and play (at least compared to an STI cluster swap). My only question is would I need to find an automatic '04 cluster because I have a 4EAT WRX?

tacoma speedometer will set mileage on a cluster for you for $80 plus shipping. Great customer service there. They goofed due to a discrepancy between 05 and 06 sti clusters that they had never encountered and they fixed it for free, and offered to pay overnight shipping both ways. Very friendly/helpful on the phone and all that jazz.

Also there is a guy around here that says he's done it to a WRX cluster himself though as of yet I do not believe he has made this info available.

oops this thread is mad old. I'm pretty sure you would because the manuals arren't equipped with the lights to do the AT position lights, course you could just live without.

I've gone ahead and bought the gauge, when I receive it I'll just test it in the car...M/T to M/T is plug and play. If the only difference is the lights I can live with that.

I've actually heard of Tacoma Speedometer, but I hadn't seen the WRX listed on their site. I'll go ahead and give 'em a call.

good luck, If MT->MT works MT->AT will work, the cluster is the same other than the lights as there is only one wiring diagram of the "combination meter" for all 04 imprezas other than the STi.
