Default A/C Compressor Questions

-> Mods: Move to appropriate area, if applicable.

My A/C Compressor has a seized clutch. The wheel its self moves fairly well, just the inner clutch does not release. The Compressor is on a Ej22e ( Single port, '97 Impreza 2.2,) now I do not know about how compatible Compressors are across the board.

I can make the wiring work if harnesses do not match year to year or whatever. However if they would not simply match up, that is an issue.

Questions being, Can a Subaru A/C Compressor be rebuilt? Are there kits for this? Does a seized clutch make the assembly bad?

I would rather rebuild it than find another 211k mile AC compressor for fear of seizing again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kyle.

I have the same question as well. Only difference is I have a 95 and it hasn't seized yet, but it's sure growling like hell. Have you searched NASIOC?

Edit: You should probably ask the mod to move this to a more appropriate forum. I don't think rebuilding the AC is a "conversion."

You can buy rebuilts from like napa. but at lest for my 2002 the clutch and compressare are sold as one piece. like $800 from the dealer. I got a low mile used one for $45 from the for sale fourm.

I used a 03 wrx one on my 04 rs and it worked. The wire connector was different so I had to us the one off my rs and rewire it but it's easy, only 3 wires. Usually you can find used one for around $50.
