Hey all!
I know the WRX has a reputation for the cruise control going bad. Mine has been not working since I bought it back in October. Car is a 2002 WRX wagon. What should I check first to make it work again? Planning a couple road trips and having cruise control would be nice. Thanks.

Well first off, is there a cable going to the throttle body?
Second, check the Cruise control fuse Look under the dash and see if there are any wires attached to the sensors going to the clutch or brake. Or do they look disconnected or broken. Are all the brake light bulbs good? Is the brake light on in your dash? looking at the wiring diagram, you need f/b fuse no. 18 and Horn Relay. Fuse no 16 looks like it powers the brake wire signal that stops the cruise when you hit the brakes. Does it light up at all? Never really looked at a subaru cruise control, but normally they have vacuum running to them. Check for disconnected vacuum lines. |

Thanks I will check those things out. I have just heard this is a common problem with the WRX near this model year.

I had this same issue with my 2002 wrx wagon. I took it to the dealership and they found that some of the wires had pulled out of the connector going into the cruise control module under the dash behind the steering colum. They just pushed all the wires firmly back into the connector and everything was good.

If that fails, check the signal of the neutral position sensor. If those fail, it's possible for the car to think it's in neutral all the time and then will not let you activate the cruise control.

\Either you're not getting main power, or one of the sensors is not getting power or you're getting a signal from a sensor telling it not to work or you have a break in the circuit, disconnected plug or broken wire. here is the wiring diagram for your car, on page 61 is where the cruise diagrams start http://ken-gilbert.com/wrx/mans/7%20-%20WIRING.PDF If switch doesn't light up, check for power at the fuses, the check for power at the swtich and so on and so on. Could this be an issue with CEL? Doesn't CC stop working if the car threw a CEL and wasnt cleared?
