If you have the money, time and patience it can be done.

I think you'd probably do better to post this in the proper section, see Subaru Conversions.

Beyond that, I know that the 08+ WRXs are CAN-BUS, which is a LOT more work to swap as I believe you have to basically swap the entire electrical system, and more. As far as swap differences between 04-05 and 06, try searching

A quick search turned up this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=06+wrx+swap

My biggest ? is will you be doing the swap yourself, or dropping off your car the donor to a shop? If you have the time, and maybe a friend or two with some experience and know how (offer up some beer and you will find you have friends with swap know how ) you can swap over the entire harness front to back. It would be the cheapest route, but most likely take the longest. There are some people on here who could more than likely splice the two harnesses together for you while you swap in the drive line and that would be pretty quick and not much down time. Or just shell out a pay check or two and have someone like PIA do the swap for you. And yes, I just realized that did little to nothing to answer your question about the differences. My apologies. My best guess is the harnesses differ greatly.

02-05 is DBC and 06+ is DBW... So the 06 wrx is just like a USDM sti swap. You have to add pedal control and immobilizer. Search for a thread on here that I have on wiring. It should answer most of your questions.

+1

I've done and 03' swap, an 06' swap and now an 04 sti swap...

They're both equal in difficulty, the 06' just had the immobilizer and DBW throttle.

thanks guys. very quick to answer. bad news is the bid for the 06 was a little high for me so i didnt get it. but there are plenty more imprezas were that came from lol. hopefully ill get one with in a month. hoping for sti too lol. i would rather pay more for an sti. and to answer your question sxc-rex ya ill be doing swap my self. i have a buddy who is a wiring genious and can do wiring for anything and everything. and everything else.. well i have you guys right? with forums like these you can find out anything lol just might take a little longer but either way im confident in the actual swaping.

I have done two swaps. The easiest one was the 05 STI to an 01 Impreza. I swapped everything over in 17 days to include the dash and full harness. If you go this route your splicing will be limited to power windows, locks, headlights, taillights, and anything not in the main bulk wiring harness. when you do settle on getting a donor car do exactly that. get the full car that way you have everything you need. I find guys that buy motor/tranny sets still end up buying more stuff to complete the swap.

here is a link to my finished product.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...highlight=4080

there was the normal gaps where the A pillar meets the dash but I plan using something as simple as weather stripping to fill that gap (it's maybe a 1/4 of an inch).
