All the above will work. But why put an old beat up engine from a 04 in a 06 sti? If you buy a 07 engine or any rather just install some drop in pistons and be done with it.

I found a 05 STI motor with low miles..This engine will plug directly into my 06 harness? Can I just drop it in hook everything up and go?

yeah it will bolt right in, but instead of spending the cream for another motor, why dont you just build yours?? Like, get a piston and ring kit and some bearings and clean hone your block... Youll spend the same but you will be able to take more abuse that way, less prone to popping the new built motor.
