Default pink spring help!!!

I have been trying to figure out what these springs are for quite a while. i have had numerous pm conversations with people on this forum. i have spoken with many shops over the phone and in person, and haven't gotten too far. i finally got them tested for their rates, unfortunately the jack maxxed out at 3.5" and the dead coils were compressed at 3 ", so the rest is guesstimation.

Both springs fit into 04+ tophats and are rear wagon springs. the spring with the orange paint mark matches the overall height and coil count as "normal" pink springs. the ones with the purple mark do not. they are shorter and have a greater coil count.

I really appreciate any constructive help anyone has to offer, please none of that "the search button is your friend" because ive spent a considerable amount of time searching.

Thanks!

?Tuned by Arai? on the left, USDM wagon on the right.
Note the different heights and coil counts.

Thanks again!

Doesn't anyone have a friend that knows "everything" about cars and never shuts up about how great they are? Have them take a look at this thread!

the one with the blue dot should be jdm sti rears, the other one.....I dunno maybe the 02-03 pinks.

there is a thread that has all the springs, with dot color combos. search for it.

first off, thanks for an attempt.
scoobystas...if you compare the picture you linked to (jdm pinks), with mine (purple dots), you'll see that they have different coil counts, so they are not the same springs.

fastwrx...
same as my response to scoobystas.
also, the "other ones" (orange dots) fit into 04+ tophats as i said in my original post, and im pretty sure theyre rear wagon v8's (thanks bigsky).
i have read the thread you are talking about, quite a few times, and there is no mention of anything that matches mine with the purple dots.

i dont want to come off sounding arrogant and i truly thank you guys for an effort towards helping me figure this out. ask around for me if you have access to friends at shops, tuners, autocrossers, etc...

Thanks again!

another thing that has been confusing with the identification, is that when i got their rates tested, they were both proceeding along very similar lines (see the second and third photos in my original post).

by checking this link, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2024818, the rear swift springs have the same coil count as my purple marked springs. does this mean anything to anyone?

so today, i finally got these springs tested properly by the guys at Swift, who by the way are awesome!

all 4 of my front sti pinks with the white paint markings (usdm), were ~215lbs/in
the 2 rears with orange markings were ~190lbs/in
the 2 rears with purple markings were ~290lbs/in <---not a typo, 290

these rates, while accurate, can be considered rough because different manufacturers will average their rates at different points dependent on the application.

it makes sense that the higher rate purple marked ones (290) would be shorter than the lower rated orange marked ones (190).

now the question remaining is, with the given rates, what are they?
the orange marks throw me off, but their rates say usdm pinks
the purple marked spring rates say sti tarmac, but i thought those were all black???

please feel free to chime in.
thanks!,

alex

^ the STi v8 Tarmacs (sometimes also call Arai) are "pink"- there were two versions that were very similar- one set was 342/285 f/r, the other 324/274 f/r

the old v6 (GC) ones were all black

I ran the second mentioned set on my 04 wagon (w/ Koni's) great springs

you can source just the fronts to have a matched set (I wouldn't run those rears w/ any the fronts you currently have)- give Dave @ rallispec a call and he can order a set of fronts
