Default Leaking Cam seal

With about 200 miles on the rebuilt heads, the front cam seal on the passenger side is leaking.

Any ideas what I could have done when installing the new seal that caused a leak. Will be replacing it soon and don't want to repeat the same mistake.

While I am on the subject, any advice on a procedure for pulling the seal without scratching the head or shaft?
