They turned out...

(Trying to control my unbridled inner 4 year old joy right now)

... fan-TASTIC.

So happy. So pumped. Paint match is spot on, looks super smooth. The mating curve between the shift boot and the bezel bottom is dead nuts on. Top curve fits very well (albeit not perfect, but the I've tried that geometry like 8 different ways and it's just friggin' hard, but you won't be disappointed, I promise).

I applied the foam pieces and they are exactly what I wanted. New re-inforced tab design feels really strong compared to the original. With the foam cosmetics on there the iPad is SNUG. Not snug like, "I can't get it in or out," but snug as in, "once it's in, I can pull a 1G turn, hit a pot hole, and we're not going to come undocked." Super about that.

The boss mounts for the HVAC are reinforced and you can thread the screw all the way in. It's an aggressive thread screw into plastic here, so don't go all psycho drill press install on it, just work it in nice and easy and you'll have a great fit. I purposely left the HVAC holes a little large. You'll notice a ~1mm gap all the way around. It's not something you'll even notice once it's in there, but I played it safe. If you leave little clearance and you missed the center of the hole by .005" you can tell.

I'll grab some high res photos for tomorrow, but right now (with the fading light outside) here's what I can give everyone w/ iPhone 3G crappiness:

I have 6 painted, 6 unpainted that I have to sell. Obv I'm keeping 1 of the painted ones, but the rest will be sold. I'm talking the distributor to shore up the price on the initial group buy and you guys will get that price (just an earlier ship date as I have them in hand).

I don't want to say, "send me a PM if you want to buy one of these initial 12 units" for a couple reasons:
1) I'm not a registered vendor here on NASIOC. My vendor is, so having them sell something is OK. Having me use these forums to sell something, not so OK. The mods have been nice enough to let me walk this line as you've all been instrumental in the development of the bezel in the first place.
2) I don't want to have to choose who does/doesn't get a bezel. There are a few of you that I've already spoken with and will be getting one of these. You know who you are. Once I get those guys taken care of, I'll likely ship the rest off to the distributor and have them do it the old fashioned way, so as to appease the NASIOC gods. :sacrificialchild.jpg:

Congratulations and well done. It's always gratifying when a design hits production.

Hear! Hear!

I know that our virtual presence has helped Justin gauge demand and our vehement support may have kept him going in the dark hours, but he did all the work and footed all the bills.

It's time to put your money where your mouth is and make sure his first production molding SELLS OUT!

Looks amazing...!! Any pics from a little further away so you can see how the ipad and mount fit into the scale and layout of the interior..? And maybe one with it in so we can see the size of the screen..? (which is smaller than the iPad itself)

I'm def in! Looks great. I will do my best to make it work on my non-climate-controlled model. It may be roughed up with some bondo and sanding. Let us know when they are available for sale by your vendor!

Rumor is $175 for the group buy, but may end up being slightly higher. A stock OEM bezel is typically around $150, but there are discounts in quantity and, ya know, Subaru made a few more than I'm making.

Ask and ye shall receive...

... Sunlight was weird today so couldn't snap great photos. Yes, I am using an aerobed to block out the sunlight through the windshield.

So cool...^^^^

Get in the back seat, lay the front seats back a bit, you'll get a lot more of the front..

I need to look at my GC now and see what I can come up with... considering the shape of everything, not to promising..

The pics do kinda show a lot of glare, but functionally it hasn't been an issue for me. If it is a big issue for anyone, you can easily put an anti-glare screen on the ipad, but I don't think it's necessary.

This 64GB 3G machine had a screen/glare protector installed by its previous owner. I tried it for a week or so, but finally pulled it off to go back to the naked glass. It seemed like I had to crank the brightness too much to see and the clarity just wasn't as good. Could have been a crappy film; no clue what it was.

Pictures look great!

im guessing it was the type of film because im using a powersupport anti-glare film and i have brightness at only about 1/4 and it still looks clear for me...

I think you're right. Not sure I'm going to need one, but if I do I'll give your brand a try.

Was heading to Chicago on Monday and one of my co-workers was driving. I was in the passenger seat using my iPad and he had to request a change of angle as the reflection was blinding him.

Random thought here: What would you use to color the iPad dock black and not have it look like a$$?

I'd sand the dock with 800 grit, clean it with some acetone, paint it with a krylon flat black for plastics, sand that with 2000 grit, paint it again, sand that with 2000 grit again, then throw on a clear coat if wanted (I wouldn't).
