I can currently get a very good deal on some used Koni Tire Challenge tires (which are Hoosier tires). Im thinking about getting as many as 8 of them.
If you click https://www.hoosiertire.com/ecommerc...sp?SubCatID=17 they are the second tire down on the list. Seller does not know how many heat cycles they have had, but knows they were used for practice and qualifying in the ST class. He says he gets about an hour out of each of them when he uses them at the track. From what I can gather in speculation on forums, they are harder than Hoosiers A6 (AutoX) and R6 (Road Race) compound so they can last longer and the seller specified they are "intermediate compound"... As far as I can find for consensus they wouldnt heat up fast enough for AutoX (one user said he needs 3 laps at the track before he can push them to the limit). I am in Louisiana and my chapter uses a black parking lot so it does gets HOT in the summer, street tires are ALWAYS overheated here. We take 3 laps per heat, each lap about 10-20minutes apart. IDK if this would be enough heat for those Hoosier tires? SO, and heres my scenario- im budget-minded ("cheap") so cant afford a new set of R-comps or slicks, and im not really trying to be competitive in any level above my chapter- So even though the Hoosier's may not heat up fast enough to be FULLY optimal would they still be faster than... Falken Azenis RT-615K? I am thinking about getting a barely used set of those (found a good deal). Nitto NT-01? (This season I ran those in the front and street tires in the rear , great tires but too expensive to buy again)Essentially im wanting to know if these slicks that may be operating under their optimal heat range would be as fast as R-Compound tires...

After slicks are heat cycled a few time and have sat for a little while they are worthless. If you are getting them for $1 they would be worth paying to mount and run down to the cords, but they will not be competitive.
Get the street tires. |

depending on the tires you are running try giving a call to john berget. 262-740-0180 they have used r-comps for cheap.
The site is outdated but they will respond to email/phone |
