back in highschool, my friend would drive his VW bug around with both wipers up, turn them on, and scream NARC DETECTOR, NARC DETECTOR!!! out the window.

It never ceased to amuse us.

He's in charge of the elephants at a zoo now. true story.

That one was great. I remember "ice skating" all the way across town, just sliding freely on tennis shoes. Vehicle traffic was not an option, even with studded tires.

I put mine up last night because an ice storm rolled in. I don't normally for snow. In hindsight it was the correct move because I was able to scrape/beat the ice off my windshield. I would have destroyed my wipers if they were down. My car doesn't get hot enough at idle to effectively defrost the windshield.

Good luck with that, they tuck nicely under the hood where good wipers should stay.

I'll install a trailer hitch while I'm there ripping those suckers out from under the edge of the hood. Stupid concealed wipers.

Sleet/freezing rain tonight= wipers UP!

We got snow last night and I left them down. No issues.

We have similar thoughts on when this is appropriate. I was the only one of my neighbors with functional wipers after the ice the other day.

You answered your own question. You've never lived anywhere with real winters.
