The TWE header works for 05 already.

Supposedly they don't fit automatics.

I've never heard of anyone saying it will.

Cost effective depends on you. Coating has its advantages over wrapping though.

1. Will the TWE header hit the subframe/melt the P/S line?

2. Will the TWE header allow me to drain my tranny fluid without removing the header?

3. Can I use my existing skidplate with the TWE header (I already have spacers because of the Borla replica)?

4. Is it cost effective to get the header coated rather than wrapping it?

5. Last, will coating the TWE header still produce the P0420 CEL (have never had the CEL with the wrapped Borla replica)?

Sorry for so many questions, but I appreciate the help. By the way, I talked with Tom at TWE and the price really is cheaper than what they quote online.

Thanks again,

Steve
The "new" headers twe is producing are designed for 06/07 I thought. The 4-2-1 design runs right under the trans drain plug on my 5MT, but a tool can be fabricated for little $ to aid removal of the plug without removing the headers. A little drip pan or something around the headers like alum foil when draining the fluid should do the trick. If you want a pic of the tool, let me know and ll post it here. The 4-2-1 design will fit the 4EAT according to who I bought mine from.

I have a 4 into 1 TWE header on my 05 rs (MT) and it used to hit the U-frame on the driver's side until I replaced my engine mounts by hardened STI mounts. No problems since the new mounts are in.
On my 5 speed tranny, the header has to be taken down to flush the transmission oil.
No 0420 CEL, and the header's not wrapped nor coated.

TWE header & mechanical rear diff = best mods I ever did to the car.

DO IT!!!!!

Didn't know the 4-2-1 design didn't have that problem. My mistake.

Thanks for all of the replies. Your input is appreciated. I updated the original post to be a little more clear on which header my questions are about. Thanks again.

Since I ended up with a PM about this:

1) My TWE 4-2-1 HO header, bought in 2010, does not hit the crossmember or power steering lines. Yes, I have the Group N engine mounts. You should have them to.

2) The TWE 4-2-1 header will clear both the 5MT and 4EAT trannies

3) Coating will last longer than wrapping and work pretty well, if done right. The only company doing exhaust coating right is Swaintech. Yes, I've tried JetHot personally. No, it's not as good as Swaintech. The coatings used by cheap pipe makers like Grimmspeed, Import Image, etc isn't worth a damn. Keep in mind that coatings and wrappings work slightly differently. Coating primarily reduces the pipe's ability to radiate. So the surface temperature of the pipe is high but stuff near it, but not touching the pipe, stays much cooler. Wrapping reduces both radiation and conduction. Meaning things can touch the pipe (well, the wrap on the outside of the pipe) with less chance of catching on fire. Wrap does retain more heat overall, but has problems with durability and evenness that coating doesn't have. It's a tradeoff.
