I had my clear bra put on the front and I happened to pull up on a curb too far one day... I went completely up onto the curb and back off and only managed to scratch the underside and have a small crack under the bumper where one of the holes are. I believe strongly that the clear bra is holding mine together and well at that. I'll let you all know if the crack propogates up under the clear bra and I guess replace it accordingly

Someone suggested coilovers, but that seems like a little extreme. If there are any other ways to raise things up during the winter months, I'd love to hear it!
Seriously?! No one has a solution for this yet?

Do older model wrx spacers work? Anybody?

Okay, so it looks like this problem is pretty widespread. As many have stated, it is doubtful that Subaru is going to do anything for us ... it's our responsibility to be cautious, right ?

Unfortunately, just weeks after buying my new 2011 WRX, I was the victim of a front lip crack. With recurring issues noted in this thread, there was no way I was about to pay for a new bumper and paint job. Today, I decided to go DIY and try to prevent the crack from worsening.

I cut two small, flat strips of plastic to reinforce the cracked area on the back side of the bumper cover. It seems that just about flat, stiff plastic will work - Tupperware, side of a juice bottle, etc. Then, I covered the plastic strips with a nice layer of epoxy (I used Loctite 5 minute plastic epoxy). I crawled under the car, aligned the damaged area and glued my reinforcement strips to the backside of the bumper cover. I was careful to ensure the strips were flush throughout their entire surface areas and that the entire crack was supported. Lastly, in an effort to stop spidering, I put a very small amount of the remaining epoxy on the front side of the crack.

Hopefully this $6 repair helps somebody out there ... and hopefully my handiwork holds. A few hours after drying, it seems fantastic . The crack is now barely noticeable and the repaired area feels rock-solid. Pictures are below ... unfortunately I don't have any 'before' photos, but as you can imagine, it looked worse before.

612miles and I joined the club
No snow or curbs just a steep driveway. I scraped the bottom and it is barely visible but I felt underneath and there is a big crack in THE SPOT. I may try to see what the dealer says with such low mileage. If not I'm gonna find a $100 Polyurethane ebay lip and hope it holds things together.

So, how hard is it to swap front bumpers? Is it a PITA?
Reason why I'm asking is I'm having mine replaced on the 21st of this month. I was considering keeping the slightly cracked bumper (much like the pic right above this post) for winter duty as to not have my new bumper demolished during next winter. Any suggestions? Good idea? Not worth the time and effort?
thanks,
. . .

My Dealer is having a sale on accessories and will get me the STI lip for $299. Anyone put this on after they had some scraping? I'm wondering if it will hold things together and how much it will reduce ground clearance.

thats not that bad if your paint is three-stage. I was quoted 50 bucks more than your total. And what's up fellow little rockian

I joined the club today. Pulled into a parking spot that had a dip in the pavement. Took my foot off the break, rolled into the dip and BARELY tapped the curb. Come around and bingo, a crack in the exact same place everyone else has one. Driver's side, right where it goes up. It's only 3 to 4 inches but with 2,700miles on the car, I want to murder someone. Took it in and got a quote for $534 to fix it or $700ish to replace it. Still debating on what to do.

I repaired mine and it is holding together pretty well. However my car is black so the thin line from the repair is not very visible. I'm saving my money for a replica polyurethane lip whenever they come out for the 2011.

What did you use to repair it? Price?

Dark Gray Metallic is dark enough that a thin line from the repair won't bother me.

I also repaired my crack with 5-minute epoxy glue. I used duct tape for extra security on the back of the bumper, where it cannot be seen. I sanded down the bumpy areas after the glue dried and repainted the damaged section of my bumper with six layers of base coat and four layers of clear coat.

I am quite disappointed at how flimsy our bumpers are. Props to Subaru for making a great engine, but thumbs down on the cheap plastics.

When I get my car I might try to do some preventative reinforcing using strips of plastic or thin gauge aluminum and epoxy. It should firm up the bumper enough without doing major modification.

I used an unnecessarily expensive 2 part urethane glue on the back of the bumper and a piece of ABS flashing from Home depot. Then I used fender washers and stainless pan head bolts to hold it together mechanically. Sounds horrible but it is all on the bottom where you can't see it.

I may just use this method and if it turns out like **** and I hate it, then will I shell out $700 for a new bumper. I'm not about to spend that kind of money if I can fix something and live with it.

Sign me up for "the spot" club. 2011 Impreza, 5k miles. Same story, steep driveway. Definitely going to get a brand new one.

Did you guys that are saying $700 quoting the price for new bumper cover, paint, and labor? I could totally put on a bumper, what was the price for just a new painted cover?

I left my quote in the car, as soon as I get home from work I'll post the write up the guy at the dealership gave me. I'm getting a second opinion from a local shop to see if they can do better on Wednesday. I'll keep you all updated.

My dealer gave me a great price on the bumper cover but it is unpainted. Replacing the bumper cover is extremely easy. I took mine completely off just to do the repair. If you have a paint shop that will paint the bumper by itself for you I could see replacing the cover for $3-400. My repair was closer to $30 so I'll live with it.

Here's my writeup from my dealership for the repair(not a replacement) :

Parts - $5.00
Body Labor - $196.80 @ $48.00/hour for 4.1 hours
Paint Labor - 201.60 @ $48.00/hour for 4.2 hours
Paint Supplies - 109.20 @ $26.00/hour for 4.2 hours (I don't get how they want to charge me hourly for painting supplies)

Subtotal - 512.60
Tax - 11.42
TOTAL - 524.02

Now again, that was only for repair. He said a brand new bumper w/ paint and labor was around $700.

Too high. Get a bumper cover and take it to a paint shop.
