Last few months I've been working on a few high end super cars and every time I drive around in them just makes me keep shaking my head on why I even bother spending money on the scoob. On a good note though because of all this my spending spree has slowed down leaving me with more money to save up lol

make sure you trade for brake light and trunk torsion bars also (might have to give a bit of cash for the brake light)
Who needs a 3rd brake light anyways?? Haha, I need to add one to my car. I've been without one since September 07, so, I'm not in a huge rush @ this point.

When/If I swap, will they have it on their car? Do I have torsion bars too? Does the wingless STI already have the 3rd brake light?

yes yes no

you wont get any money for your sti set up because the wingless is much more desireable. also see the nesic trunk swap thread.

Ya no 3rd light right now too. But I've gotten too many tickets for random stufff. No front plate, car too low, too loud in the past. Rather not Let them pull me over for something so stupid.

Plus if I get rearended I the guy hitting me to be 100% at fault.

Been looking for a third brake light. Kind of hard to find for some reason.

Gives me a peace of mind

I think I'm just gonna buy a strip of LEDs and put it in the back window somewhere.

They say anything when you got inspected? Mine has been to like 3 different places and none of them noticed it had no 3rd brake light.

One of these days I'll remember to order one or something.

Nobtheyndidnt but I've been in situations where a cop will pull younover because they think you did something. Then whn they realize they are wrong they look at the whole car and find things to ticket you because they don't want to look stupid letting you go.

Have happened twice now.

Oh and got a 2 tickets in the mail for loud exhaust and a headlight out from cops on detail.

Maybe I just live in a bad cop area.

You probably won't find a person trading a wingless trunk for an STi setup, but you could easily sell it.

When I was looking for my STi trunk it was really hard to find one because they were going so fast. I ended up finding a last minute deal where the guy was going back to stock and I traded my WRX wing and scoop for his STi setup.

This is a really bad and dumb question, but how long/many backfires will it take to completely blow out my oem cats. I want them gone and this seems to be the easiest way, lol. I've noticed more of a raw fuel smell lately, seems like a sign of success. But will I blow out all the material from doing this enough??

doubt you will blow out the material....just remove them and gut them and call it a day.

Gut them before they break. The broken material is prob never gonna all come out. It will just rattle around and make noise, not to mention clog and reduce flow even more than when they were intact.

Tireiron and I have been trying to come up with a plan for the easiest possible way to gut the cats. Removing the downpipes will be a bitch, but will probably make the best results in the end..

it would make life easier to jack the front end up...or even drive up on a curb, but if your skinny enough you dont have to.

I put my front lip on without jacking the car up and it sucked.

Now that it has the lip its even harder to get @ stuff under the front. And you have the same lip, and your cars a little lower.

I've never installed them, but, if you don't have to get @ anything from underneath you might be ok.

gutting them will result in a loss of power. introducing fuel to them will simply clog them and result in a loss of power. the erratic flow of the open chambers will cause changes back pressures. its bad. pull them out and put in test pipes.

google it.

I think the issue here is that even simple test pipes for the 2.7 twin turbo are obscenely expensive. And not many companies make them.

I know APR makes Audi downpipe systems, but the last time I checked they were around $1500.

What vehicle are we talking about that needs gutted cats or test pipes?

Taking the stock ones to a good fab shop and having them replicated would be no where near that kind of money. It will be done right the first time.

If he can afford the downtime I think that's an excellent solution. However last time I talked to Matt we were looking at doing this in a weekend.

I suppose you could find a junked car and pull the pipes from there, but you'll be hard pressed to find the newer 2.7TT motor in a junkyard still sitting there.
