Long story short, I was working on my 07 sti then my friend came with his 2000 Subaru Outback, 5-speed with a new crank pulley and bolt, I had made a tool that would fit the crank pulley on my car and when we were torquing it down my tool snapped.
Luckily I went to a tool store nearby and they had something that caught my eye, it said for use on cam gears but I gave it a try and it worked! Here is a link to it on amazon.com: I paid a little more, $10 to be exact but a good tool to have, never know when that next motor build is coming and of course no more having to use the poor crank bolts to provide the holding power and hoping they don't snap under the load. Happy wrenching. ![]()

Yeah, 5th gear and the ebrake on if its in the car. If it's on an engine stand vice grips on the flywheel.

I used a pry bar and stuck it in between the flywheel and one of the clutch bolt didn't wanna break any teeth on the flywheel. Then I had a friend turn the crank bolt with a rachet. Easy enuff for me.......

I really doubt that you'd snap the teeth on the flywheel... That's how I've removed and installed all of my flywheel bolts, and I've never even bent a screwdriver. I normally engage both holes and teeth on both sides though, that way there's less stress on just one point.

long breaker bar resting on the driver side frame, then as you watch have someone try to crank it over once or twice (have the fuel pump disconnected or somethin similar in order to keep the car from actually firing.) a bump or two from the engine is enough to get it loose enough to do it by hand.
