Sweet work. Looking forward to seeing you in Grid at Nationals!
Assuming you'll talk to an Evo driver (I will have my WRX at the event though)Quote:

Awesome driving Neal. Pretty good when you look at the index and you see 6 (maybe 7, not sure if Tim Aro is one) national champions behind you. Nevermind raw timing Jeff Cashmore's DM car. Wish I couldn't driven too, courses looked fun!

Guess I ought to come out of lurk mode now that I'm back in a Subaru.
The car is nuts. Just plain nuts. But the nuttiest thing about it is how easy it is to drive, compared to what you might think. Katie ('05 SML Champ in our Scirocco) had a poo-eating grin on her face after her first run, saying it was like driving the Scirocco, except it did everything right. ![]() Sean forgot to mention something: He would have been 11th on PAX if he'd run XP instead of EM. And Katie would have been the highest gal by far at 28th. ![]() Neal |

Congrats Neal, maybe someday I'll get my car running and compete in XP with you guys! It's still sitting in the garage!
What ratio is the Q-rack you put in there? I have an old Rev-lab 10.5 rack in my car (which was in my old SM car) and I have to say apart from the power it was one of the single best mods I ever did the car with respect to autocross. Phil Last edited by dwx; 07-24-2011 at 05:13 PM. |

The rack is an 11.5:1.
It's an amazing upgrade. |

Holy crap....Phil, is that YOU!?!?! [rubs eyes in disbelief]
![]() My codriver has pointed out the steering ratio as the only thing he wishes were better. Dam Miotter drivers.... The quick rack is on my list of things to do, even if I just do a 1.5:1 quickener. Jay |

Yeah it makes an amazing difference. Not great for driving around town persay, and when you are driving to the Toledo Pro Solo and the alternator tensioner bolt breaks leaving you with no accessory belt and no power steering, it's really not great.
I'd be interested in the fuel setup you guys are using with the cell as opposed to the gas tank. I'm still looking at SM in which fuel cells are legal (min of 5gal). Speedyham, is your AWIC one which sits on top of the engine still in the stock location or relocated elsewhere? |

The fuel setup is very basic, 5 gallon cell with a Walboro external fuel pump, -12 lines from the fuel cell to the pump, then a hose barb to the stock lines. I plumbed the return and vent lines back to the cell and to the filler neck respectively.
The AWIC is in the stock location to make the turbo to throttle body volume as small as possible. I think I can lower the exhaust manifold volume and the turbo ->TB volume at the same time with a setup that I'm looking at for down the road, but for now that one stays in my head. |

Thread hijack! It's not a 96. It's a 94. Yes we will be out there. Unfortunately not on our usual rubber. We are awaiting a set of the new Goodyear RS's. jake |

So we made the trip out to the Colorado National Tour this year to check out our competition and to go somewhere different.
The event was pretty good. The site had surprisingly low levels of grip, and when it got hot the grip went down. The competition was fast. Fred and Chris were lightning quick and the courses favored higher HP to weight cars. Brian and I didn't have the shocks adjusted quite right on Saturday and had a few problems with the exhaust escaping. Overall not a great day, but not too bad. Then came the bourbon slushies. If for nothing else, it's worth it to attend this event just for the slushies. Sunday the car felt better until Brian's last run when the engine started acting up. It's an electrical ghost that I haven't been able to find yet, but I'm working on it. I DNF'd my second run being too aggressive, my third was faster and clean, but Julie put down a blazing run with only one cone and took third. That Lotus is amazing. To beat it I will need fresh tires, wider wheels, and much more power. One video from the grandstand to show the course- And a few pictures- ![]() The fast Lotus ![]() Carbon Fiber suspension on a FSAE car- Really cool work. ![]() And- the right way to make a restricter. Also on the FSAE car. Sorry no real good pictures of competition, I was busy chasing the exhaust and staying out of the heat. Lastly, Nebraska is a really long and boring state to drive through. ![]() |

For a second there, I thought the suspension pic was from the Lotus...... Jeezus that car is just insane to watch!
One of my codrivers will be jumping to XP with you Sean. Not sure who, just yet. Good luck, and see ya in a few weeks! Jay |

It was a great Nationals for the CBEI. We had a few mechanical problems along the lines of an alternator that blew (I'm blaming the rock that was found in the housing next to the burned windings). Thanks to a great amount of help that showed up from my local club (MAC) and the most expensive car battery charger in history (a 2005 Nissan Titan running at ~2500 rpm between runs) with jumper cables to charge my spare battery we were able to finish all our runs on Tuesday. A quick run to Speedway motors in Lincoln got a replacement alternator and the car ran great the rest of the week.
Final results were: 1st in XPL 3rd and 6th in XP 5th in EM Four drivers, three trophies, one class win for a jacket. I could not have dreamed of the results being this good even last week at this time. I'll get some video's up when I get them from my co-driver. |
