I want to do this so bad but don't want to mess up the outers and don't feel like payin that much to a tint shop. Do you have to take the housings off the car to apply them?

I did my own and feel that I rushed it a bit. It wasn't hard, really. Just time consuming and you have to be patient with the material. It's easy to heat it up too much and stretch it all funky. You kind of tuck the vinyl into the gaps around the light, then when you're all done, just run a razor blade along the gap to cut off excess. |

@ erik: I really like that light tint. Just enough that it's not super shiny chrome anymore. Nice touch.

Thanks I saw the darker version on Bluebat's site and just thought it was too dark and might draw unwanted (IE police-type) attention. IMO, this is way these should've come from the factory.

FWIW I was talking to the guy that did my lights after I messed up one of the outters. He also did my windows previously and he did a really good job on both. He said the secret to doing them well was using a steam gun (if you have a fabric steamer that is exactly what you need) but he didn't figure that out until the back half of the hour he spent on the first outter. Then he said he did the 2nd outter in about 30 minutes.

I tried putting mine on myself and screwed it up, took them to a tint shop that didn't know how to do them, and eventually got them put on last week:

You need to take them off...and its not hard to do just takes time and a hair dryer to get them perfect. I swear the biggest PITA for me was getting the inner plastic hatch parts to clip back in.

I got it done at King Tint in San Bruno, CA. They took them off and took two people to do it. I definitely wouldn't have had to patience to finish it.

I'm about to order some of these since I can't stand the stock look...I'm torn between the 6/10 smoke and the red with the 6/10 smoke cutouts. My car color is grey metallic..opinions?

I didn't want to risk messing up, so I had my window tint guy do it for me. I watched him while he was doing it with a steam gun, took about a good hour.

Damn, maybe it's the way the light is hitting it, but that red looks sooo nice. Like it's really just a transparent red housing. Kudos to your installer.

If I didn't know mine were tinted, I would think they were red housings. If applied properly, you can't tell the difference.
