I actually have a smartphone as my work cell phone that I use all the time, but I actually still pay about $60 a month so I can retain my personal phone/ phone number because I don't want to give it up.

I wonder, will the phone company retain my number if I pay them a small monthly fee (say $10)? I want to be able to turn it back on in case my work takes away my smartphone privileges. Anyone know?

Oh, and the answer is about 8 years or so.

A group of my friends all have the same three-digit prefix on their cell phone numbers from back in the day when they showed you a clipboard and you got to pick what you wanted off the list. Another friend was 999-0000 until the cell phone company recalled the number.

If you aren't under contract you can probably just drop it to the cheapest plan which is probably $60 because smartphone.

I changed mine about 9 years ago from a 617 to a 401. I timed it perfectly for cutting it off with a girl i had been dating. She wasn't the reason for changing, but it added some amusement to the ordeal.

She was hot, youth truly is wasted on the young.

I've had all four major carriers since 2003 and get a new number each time I change and just send a mass text to everybody with my new number. The number I have now, I've had since March.

Why not just transfer your number to a Vonage or something like that and forward it to the work phone?

I actually do the opposite. Work provides me with a ****ty regular phone but I want to use my Droid and keep my number, so I call forward the work cell number to my Droid. If I'm on vacation and I don't want to receive work calls I just turn off the call forwarding.

Its complicated.

I have a family plan with my wife, she has a smartphone on that account and I don't. My smartphone is on my work plan.

My contract is over next month though...but it won't matter, I have to either leave and have my wife on a single plan or stay on the family plan (which is already the cheapest family plan with Sprint $130 for 1500 minutes and unlimited text and data).

I was hoping that I could pay Sprint like $10 a month to keep my line though....I guess I have to call them and negotiate.
