Default OB mods and woes?

Hey great to finally see a forum just for OBs!! The Legacy Forum was cool too, but now I don't need to sort thru all the posts to see which one's from a fellow Outbacker!

So I have a couple of questions, specifically for OB owners, even more specifically for those of you out there who own a '97 MT (yup, that's mine).

Anyone had the dreaded head failure problem happen to them?
Or the other dreaded clutch/tranny shudder?

And then here's my other qn:

How can I get more power from the 2.5 DOHC? 165hp is fine for most normal driving, but I got totally creamed driving up the mountains in Colorado... I was passed by at least a dozen new V6 Outbacks! I had to drop down to 3rd gear, just to get enough power to keep at 45-50 mph! Granted the car was full, but still...

ok, once again, great to have an OB forum!!
