I'll admit I didn't read through the whole thread, but I doubt this question has come up, and so I hope it doesn't ruffle anyone's feathers. I just bought a '11 WRX and realize those stock summer tires aren't going to cut it in a N. Dakota winter.
So, my question is, will the OEM UK17s I had on my '02 WRX work fine on the '11? I'm pretty certain the bolt-spacing and offset are okay, just not sure about brake clearance. As I recall they're 17x7 with 53 offset and used a 215/45-17 tire. They've just been gathering dust for two years now, so I thought these would be great for mounting winter tires in the original 215/45-17 size. I assume it's even less of a concern to go down in size, rather than up. Any input or knowledge anyone can share is greatly appreciated. Even a scolding, if I deserve one, will be given due consideration. ![]() CORRECTION: From doing a little research into the UK17s, it looks like they have a 55 offset. Not sure how that will affect what I've asked here. AND ANOTHER QUESTION: I completely forgot about the TPMS -- can the sensors be added to wheels that don't come with them as OEM? Hate that TPMS stuff, sorry.

Thanks, Dan, I appreciate your response. Am now leaning toward just mounting some dedicated snows in the OEM size on the the factory wheels and switching back to the summer tires come late spring -- winter is about 7 months long up here, so at least I won't have to deal with it 'til well into next year. Did I mention I hate TPMS?

how about 18x9.75 +20 w/ 275/40r18's with a 2.5" lift? 1" spacer kit and 1.5" spring lift. figured just a 1" lift wouldn't be enough.

Hey Dan, just had a question about two different wheels on your site. Why are the Rota D's so cheap say in comparison to the Rota Options??

How close were those 18x9.5" +40's with 245's you posted close to rubbing? The wheels I'm looking at are 18x9.5" +38..also looking at a 245 tire. That blue '11 is pretty much the exact fitment I'm looking for.

Sorry if this is considered a bump after a week of inactivity, but I had some questions for Dan. My knowledge of these new generation of Subarus is fairly limited, as my last Subaru was a 2.5RS (hence the username).
I'm under the impression that CCW Classics can be ordered to specs provided by customers, i.e. diameter/width, hub bore size, offset. Being the case, what would be the optimal offset for a 18x10 wheel to fit on a '11 hatch? Another concern is optimal tire size- I'm not a fan of skinnier, low profile tires (though I know the profile increases in size as a tire widens) and was thinking of 265/40/18. Also in consideration is 275/35/18. Not a fan of the super stretched look. The roads around the bay area aren't too great, and having the extra "cushion" leaves my mind at ease. I don't mind rolling the rear/front fenders, though ideally it wouldn't require much more work than that. Paired with the wheels will be a set of H&R coilovers. Just looking for something decent for the street; won't see any track/race use. Is there anything else better for the money? About $1200, IIRC. Also need to look into other small bits and pieces, though I'm not sure if I'll need a camber kit. I don't plan on "slamming" the car. Like I said, the car will be for the street, so at most some aftermarket bushings, sway bars and end links. Post is a bit long, and I appreciate any insight you have. |

2011 sti I put on Rota Grids 18x9.5 front an rear with 38 offset. It is aggressively wide, flush with fender with stock camber. If you go to 30 it would need more camber and 20 would be crazy amoun of camber. Running stock tires 245/40/18 stretched but not crazy stretched. But I already rubbed curb as tire is not bulging to protected rims. I would say for lowering I may have been better getting a less aggressive offset as now the tire is under the fender where it can have rubbing issues. Stock suspension now and fenders are not rolled, it doesn't rub. I will report back when I put coil overs on in the next month.
Flat black actually looks good. You need 5mm spacers in front for brembo clearance. Great rims! Last edited by z-logic; 10-28-2011 at 04:24 PM. |

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm trying to stick with relatively stock camber settings, i.e. nothing beyond -3, and that may be pushing it. I don't really have intentions of running larger brakes in the future, so I'm not sure if I should "future proof" my offset when ordering the wheels. Maybe an upgrade to the '04-'07 four pots. Not even sure if that's a viable swap; still new to these later generations.
What I'm most concerned about right now is good fitment without rubbing in the desired 18x10 size, and either 265/40/18 or 275/35/18 tires. I've gone through the 19x10 thread, and though the idea has popped in my head, I've decided it's ultimately too big a hassle to go an extra inch in diameter. |

So the intended setup now is a 18x10 wheel, ~+45 (will research the offset more before actually pulling the trigger), with 275/35/18 tires. I'd imagine a fender roll is definitely needed- I'd like to avoid pulling any fenders if possible. Also would like to be able to bring the steering to full lock and not rub on any suspension parts or splash guards. This isn't a very familiar territory for me. When I had my RS, I thought the 16x8 wheels were pushing it ![]() |

Here's some pictures for fitment reference.
2011 WRX Hatch Wheels: Varrstoen 2.2.1's 18x9.5 +34 5x100 Flat Black Tires: Hankook Evo V12's 265/35/18 Stock Suspension, Rear fenders are rolled. There's no rubbing. Not sure the roll was necessary but planning ahead for lowering in the spring. ![]() ![]() Little Poke ![]() |

That just does not work for me. Looks forced and ill fitting.
@ ex25rs, There is no such thing as a proper fitting 10" rim. It is too darn wide. You will be doing detrimental things to your handling, as the ability to put a contact patch that wide and flat will not be possible with stock camber settings. The weight of the rim and tire will effect the way your suspension reacts, and itwill increase your braking distances. going to a 10" tire is purely a looks thing if your into that sort of look. It is not for performance unless you have Major dollars of supporting equipment to take advantage of the extra width. I would wager most stock rimmed/tired STI's would be faster in any measurable competition. |

A 10" wheel (or even a 9.5") is not unique in anyway, ESP on the new chassis. Want to be unique? Try a functional fitment hhahaha.

My line of thinking is that since most people go 9.5", I'd go an extra .5" to be "unique." And yes, I am going for a functional fitment, as stated above, I despise the "hella flush" "stance works" "fatlace" "canibeat" movement. This is just a DD and I have no intentions of tracking it in anyway- there are other toys for those purposes. |

I am looking for 265/35/18 tire without any rolling or mods for my 08 Sti.
Can anyone confirm that will work with me without doing any other mods? Thanks in advance. Current: Advan RZ 18x9 +45MM Dunlop SP600 245/40/18 KW V3 lower ~10mm (rear) Last edited by darkantz; 11-10-2011 at 12:40 AM. |
