Default Is there a catch?

I've tried emailing this place about this car. They say it's gone, that it sold in days. However, it's still listed in their inventory, and they keep changing the price on autotrader. I tried emailing them confronting them about it, they don't answer. I mean it seems to good to be true, has anyone else inquired with them about it?

It's located at "A Better Way" in Naugatuck, CT. I think it's honestly just an ad to generate clicks and it's turned to free advertising for them

anyway, here's the link...

Run, run away, both car and dealer are suspect. Keep shopping and find a legit car. Good luck.

+1 . I've seen many dealers done this. If you're close by, I would personally pay them a visit and bring a mechanic with you to check it out . If not, its best to move on to another car

Dealer cars on Autotrader seem to stick around for weeks or more. If they told you it's sold, move on.

Its such a mish mash of WRX and STi stuff, carpets and rear seats but not fronts? WRX wheels, STi steering wheel and what looks like gauges. Even with 100k on the clock, an STi would be more than 10 grand, no?

Here's the VIN, maybe someone can run it. JF1GD70665L520229

Just an FYI as I have driven by those "dealerships" before in Naugatuck....they also own body repair shops, fix the cars, and try to resell them. I wouldnt buy a car from them, ever.

Read that dealers online reviews. They seem to sell a lot of vehicles with branded titles.

Those wheels are from '09 WRX, that makes this car impossible to be STi unless they changed rotors etc or unless this car is '04 Seats looks like they're from bugeye.

Then you look at quarter panels (particularly fender flare), those are from '05+ STi.

Someone with carfax or extra few bucks should run a carfax through this service: http://reportswap.com/ I've used them on more than one occasion, really good deal.

if you are still interested I can swing by and take a look if this exists. I live like a bit over 10 miles from the place, I have owned a WRX, an 05 STi and now my outback so I a should have no problem telling what it is or isn't ... But I will not be back in CT until the middle of next week...

Actually if you go to their site they have some pics. I think I have seen this car before in the area. It looked very much like an STi but I do not think it is one..

no brembos, no sti seats. wheels from something else. and i can't tell from the pics, but it looks like there isn't a 6 spd lockout ring beneath the aftermarket shift knob.

/me would run. even if it is a deal, you'll spend enough $ making it stock to make up for the price of a more expensive stock car.

Dear Chris,

You recently emailed regarding your interest in our 2005 Subaru Impreza STI, which is still available. We do not use carfax, therefore I do not know whether or not it has been in any accidents. I can tell you that the car has a blown engine and that is the currently the only known issue. If you have any further questions or would like to set up a time to come see this car please contact me either by phone or email as I would be more than happy to help you. You can reach me at 203-720-5600 and ask for Mary. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,
Mary Frawley

Chris,

I agree this car is not stock, however the changes made do not necessarily mean it has been in an accident for all we know it could have been a repossession and the previous owner stripped the car prior to repo. We have not assessed the mechanical issues therefore we list the car as “unknown mechanical condition” and we will not be working on this car hence the “as is” description as well.

Thank you,
Mary

Subject: Re: Regarding your inquiry

Mary,

This car has Subaru Legacy rims on it, it doesn't have the front stock Brembo Brakes and front seats have been replacement from stock seats to WRX seats not STi seats. Not to mention the front rims are missing lug nuts. To say the car has been rebuilt is quite oblivious. You have a auto-body repair shop right at your place. What happened to the car and how much work needs to be done to engine? Can it be rebuilt or does it need a whole need engine? I'm sure your mechanics have assess the work needed the engine. Can you talk to someone who worked on the car tell me where it currently stands. You been sitting on this car for quite a while.

Thanks,

Chris

"oblivious"? What do you want from the seller, they've clearly stated it is "as is" and they don't want to dig into it. It is likely such a basket case that they can't begin to identify all the issues. You need to look at it yourself and decide if it is worth the hassles. I suspect showing up with cash and a trailer would get this car for a good price.
