Growing up in Utah I was convinced that Utah has some of the worst drivers in the state. I like to drive and do a lot, for work(sometimes), commute, and for fun. I have driven all over the US from PA to AK, and have seen some horrible drivers.
According to Utah public safety Utah ranks in the lower half of the US witch is pretty good. http://publicsafety.utah.gov/highway...ings6-2010.pdf I am still convinced that Utahn's suck at driving, due to my personal experiences; -Drivers treat the passing lane as the carpool lane, traveling at 65mph, not moving over when you want to pass and when you pass them on the right they race you, flash there lights when you get back into the passing lane, then tailgate even though you are now traveling 75+mph. (me first even if I'm going slower than you! syndrome)-Drivers slowing down when changing lanes, speed up to the flow of traffic people! -No one will let you in when merging, speeding up to close that huge gap you have been signaling for. ![]() -No one stops at crosswalks, I've seen 3 pedestrians get hit in crosswalks just this year. ![]() Post your bad experiences driving in Utah and what makes you think it so bad. ![]()

Practically nobody uses blinkers.
When you're turning and it's a one lane road, people will go around you in the shoulder. Once upon a time I turned right then was making an immediate left, and my right blinker was when I started slowing down. the guy behind me passed me on the left as I changed the blinker and started turning. I had no idea he was there until He started honking at me and sped up. ONE LANE ROAD. WAIT FOR THE GUY WHO IS TURNING. |

I've driven in lots of different states and Utah is no different than the rest for the most part.
However there does seem to be one trait in Utah that drives me absolutely bat**** insane... people drive like they are the ONLY ONES ON THE ROAD. I have a few friends that think the roads are theirs only. I watch them take 2 miles to accelerate to 40mph and drive 60 on the freeway in the left lane. I just cringe when I look in the mirror and see cars stacking up. I've just learned to drive like an *******. I pass on the right and use the carpool lane for passing if I have to. Hasnt bit me in the ass yet. |

I skate and bike a lot and ur so right about Bo one stopping at crosswalks. I have gotten hit twice myself from people going to about the middle of an intersection just to make a right turn. But LA is so much worse, I got cut off by a motorcycle cop on the freeway. And if you leave a foot between you and the car in front of you, two more cars find their way in your lane; but at least they use turn signals.

I'll never complain about how Utahns, or any Americans, drive after traveling abroad. Be happy with what we've got... it could be much worse.

Last weekend I drove from Virginia to Pittsburgh to volunteer some of my free time and see my brother who lives there. On the way back on the PA turnpike and I-70 in Maryland, not once, twice, but three times I come up on cars from VIRGINIA that won't move right. I mean come on if your going to pace, at least form a single line and follow it. PACING hits a nerve in me, and doesn't help the line of cars behind me either.

I'm a distance runner, you know, one of those fruits that runs around in short shorts? In Portland, OR I always kept a look-out for stupid elitist cyclists - the cars weren't much to worry about. Here, however, I've been clipped by several cars. People just don't look out for anyone - especially when exiting a parking lot - look out for pedestrians before you cross the sidewalk. I may be running at a quick pace, but not fast enough to be invisible.

Get off your mother fucqing cell phones! 99% of the people in this state can't drive without that thing stuck to their heads. There is nothing that important that anyone needs to be on it while driving!

Fourmicah, I agree, Its interesting to note that watching a driver texting or driving with their phone to their ear, they just sit and stay on it for long periods of time while driving. One time a woman passed me, phone to her ear, and I passed her some milage down the road (30 miles?) she was still on the phone. Not only is she distracted, but she is a bored driver. = drunk driver

You colorado people can chime in if i'm wrong, but i saw better roads in denver when i've always gone. I've seen better roads throughout alaska too....utah's drivers may not be the worst (they're dumb though) but i'd argue their roads are some of the worst. |

If I'm turning right and it's a 1 lane road, the speed limit probably isn't more 30. It shouldn't take forever to make that turn. Be patient.

I also agree with the phone syndrome, and them when you honk at them because they don't move on a green light and they flip you off!!! WTF I'm not the one doing something wrong.

NO. Denver roads are absolute garbage. They don't use salt here, so the snow sits on the pavement for a few days until they fiercely beat the packed snow off of it with plows. This results in the street being ripped apart. Then, instead of repaving the street and rethinking their snow removal practices, they either dig out the damaged portion and do a terrible refill (that usually doesn't end up being the same height as the original road surface), or they literally just smatter asphalt over the broken up section, which is rough as ****. It would be okay if the street had localized areas like that that you could avoid, but literally every inch of every street is like that. I've lost a ball joint, a damper, and 1 control arm bushing to Speer Blvd alone. My friend has also lost a couple of endlinks, a strut spindle, and an Anti Lift Kit. The roads here are ABSOLUTE TRASH. Also, the drivers here are just as bad as utah. If you guys want to experience frustration, go drive in boston. You've got to go full ******* on those people if you want to go anywhere.

Utah is the worst I've seen if for no other reason than Mesmerized Mormon Syndrome. Traffic will slow to a crawl for 10 miles if there is ANYTHING involving flashing lights on the side of the road. In some cases the flashing lights aren't even necessary. Everyone just has to analyze every aspect of what might be happening off the road.
