Awesome build. How's the fitment with the downpipe, and the steering linkage/rack and pinion?

I have a lot of pictures I'm going to upload either tonight or tomorrow morning to give you guys some more detail on the downpipe and radiator setup. Also I will be including the pictures of the new cage and the new oil pan.

Update #3:
This is where the car stands as of today (1/15/12)
*From this point on all images will be in this size. My apologies on the small thumbnails before*
First off let me thank everyone for viewing the video. The video has reached 1,148 views which I'm pretty happy about. We also managed to find out why the motor wasn't getting oil to the head; the oil pan was dented in so the oil pick-up was blocked, so I replaced it with my tomei pan and now it works 110%. We managed to start on the rollcage as well which is coming out really well thanks to cricks custom fabrication (where my car has been the past few months). Some of you have replied/or PM'd me on the downpipe clearance so before we took it out to weld in the O2 bung I took some pictures for you.

Here is a view from directly over the wastegate & under the car:

Downpipe out of the car/Weld-In O2:

New oil pan installed:

Beginning stage of roll cage:

That is it for now, but more pictures of the cage should be posted more next week as it gets more developed.

Damn, looks good. Any pictures how the tranny/diff mounts? Looking at the pictures, it looks like you have a lot of clearance to stuff a bigger motor? RB? I might be looking into that Mmmm

There is definitely a lot of clearance in the impreza engine bays. RB is WAY to heavy (650+lb). I'm starting off with the SR then maybe down the road I will pick up a LS1 or LS2. The LS's are even lighter than the SR in weight, but since I'm still a novice driver I didn't want to bombard myself with the power from a LS. I haven't put the R180 in yet, but that is coming up soon. We will lift the diff about 1 1/2" so the axles will be as straight as possible.

If you are really looking into it and you have the $ to spend please let me know.

Here are the pictures you asked for of the transmission mount (it is bowed on one side to fit the exhaust):

Yeah, I was wondering how much an RB would weight. I'm surprised it would be 650+. I was trying to figure out what the dry weight of a ej257 + tranny, and how much the difference will would be.

I have my wagon in storage and I no longer drive it. I got a ref ticket awhile back, and the VIN is now registered as a gross polluter. I didn't want to revert back to stock, and no way do I want to get it smogged every year, lol. I was contemplating of making it into a track car.

What's the ground clearance like? Seeing how you dropped the motor an 1''.

Jap Performance Parts put an RB26 in their GC8. Saw it in a recent issue of some magazine, thought it was import tuner. It required a ton of work including cutting the tranny tunnel and firewall to get it to fit. I think you'll love the SR. You can make more than enough power there for this chassis in my opinion.

In terms of engine/ trans dry weight, EJ longblock w/ acc ~ 250lbs , 5-speed ~ 150 and 6-speed ~ 225 I think.

SR with tranny is ~475.

clearance is good. crossmember is in stock location just built lower because the SR is a tall engine.

Yeah ive been keeping tabs with that company for a while now. they arent too helpful. I honestly dont think that their car is as setup as it could be. I can assure you my car will handle with the best of them if not better. The only thing Jap performance has on me is that they use the R200 rear diff haha. The SR is a very well balanced motor (good power for the actual weight of the engine). I've never really liked RB's simply because of the weight, however they make great power and i like the feel of them.

A complete EJ swap (engine w/trans) is only 250lb? are you sure? i could have sworn i read somewhere that it was closer to 500lb.

The first time the engine was fired up. It started on her first time. We couldnt run it long because we ran into a problem (no oil getting to the head), but the next day we swapped out oil pans because the stock one was blocking the pick-up and now she works perfectly fine.

Update #4:
This is where the car stands as of today (1/20/12)
Hello Everyone! Well the cage is finally finished and I must say I'm extremely pleased with it. We tried doing something really unique with the door bars to go with the rest of the car, and I think we hit the nail on the head with this design. Also we managed to mock up the fitment for the front bumper. The bumper support is currently being made right now, but we are just about there. Here is how the cage came out.

Will post pictures when front end is complete!

Its down-time right now. I will be going to LA next weekend to pick up a good majority of engine parts. The engine will then be disassemble then reassembled (to install new headgasket) for the last time (including standalone, gauges, and boost controller). Once that is done then its back to LA for my tune at Garage Boso. In the meantime I will be painting my rollcage and interior of the car to make it a little more presentable. The painting I hope can take place this sunday if the weather is good. Thanks for staying subscribed. I hope to have some updates soon

Update #5:
This is where the car stands as of today (3/31/12)
Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay of updates. I had to save some money up so I could start progressing quicker with the build. You all should be pleased to know that the updates will start flowing a little more smoothly now. Since the last update I painted the interior of the car and also ordered some parts through Garage Boso (who is tuning my car). Within the next few days we will be pulling the motor and installing the new parts then dropping it back in for tuning purposes. I also managed to pick up a R180 from a 05 STi that is currently being modded by Weir Performance and should be done this Monday coming up (4/2). Once my axles from the driveshaftshop come in my whole driveline will be complete. Here are the interior cage pictures. I will be uploading more pictures as parts come in and get installed. Note: I forgot to upload a picture of how we cut out my quarter panels after they were done so I included that as well. Thanks for looking!
