I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but in the 27 years that I've lived in Alaska, I'm almost 100% positive that I've never been to Hatcher's Pass... If I did I was little.

We should cruise up there so I can say that I've been, at least in recent memory, and at least for another 27 years or so I'll be good.

How long have you lived in Alaska, though?

Hatcher's is a fun drive and a great view from the top on a nice day.

haha I've always been told that I don't belong in Alaska despite living here my entire life. I just don't do Alaskan things. Add Hatcher's Pass to the list! haha

Been here since I was 1 year old. North I've been is Anatuvuk Pass. South East would be Ketchikan. West is Gambell. Never driven Hatchers but flown over it a few times. But most of that was last two years since I've been in Aviation. Alaska has the most beautiful flying around. I don't know how much it would cost, but you guys seriously need to find a way into the sky and experience Alaska from the air.

I went to Kotzebue for a day in the summer of 2010 and loved it. I do love flying.

I agree completely. I tend to fly a lot for my work, and let me tell you Alaska is a beautiful state. Flown anywhere from up to prudhoe, over to point lay, down to bethel and dillingham. Been to Anaktuvuk Pass as well.

Some of you seriously need to get out. On sunny days me and the girl regularly drive up to hatchers for a cruise. Or out to her parents by the matsu glacier.

I agree whole-heartedly. I have lots of hours as a C130 Flight Engineer in the Coast Guard. There's nothing more cool than flying up to and around Mt. McKinley and its many glaciers. Maybe landing on a glacier would be cooler but not in a Herc.

I've seen Polar Bears swimming off the coastline of Russia, Polar Bears running on the coastline of Barrow, volcanoes erupting at night, walrus being slaughtered in the Pribilof's, and Killer Whale pods raping fishermans longline gear.. I even watched an eagle smash into my airplane and hit a deer on a touch-and-go at 140kts. Those weren't cool, though.

It's a whole different view from above.

North I've been past anatuvuk pass and from there I flew almost all the way to the top. East ive flown through the Wrangles to the Canadian border. South I've been to ketchikan. West I've been to shishmaref and from there I flew out between there and Russia where I also saw polar bears. Flying is the only way to see this great state.

The only way to "SEE" Alaska, the real Alaska, is from the air.

Nice Pics Mike. I'll have to check when I get home tonight of ones I took during all my travels. Unfortunately MOST of the pics are of buildings... haha, go figure eh?

Definitely the best way to see AK is by air. and for MANY, if not ALL villages, its the ONLY way to access or even provide supplies. Nothing like flying in a caravan with a stack of napkins, fruit cups and windows on top of lumber.

You see what I did there?

Anyways I'll be driving around the big subaru around. I really need a skidplate to be playing around in this stuff. I'm surprised the plastic one is holding up.

Maybe Bartlett is the best place to play. Can't think of anywheres else. Maybe we can set up a "course" around the 4 poles and time each other. Just for fun.

If you want a course South is probably the best.

Hey it doesn't matter to me. I just want to get sideways with some what of an objective. Around a "course" in a certain time or faster than someone else. ( yea I know, ice racing)

Watching Ken Block Gymkhana vids at work get you hyped.

So get out and ice race. You just admitted that being a parking lot pirate is unfulfilling. Come race, then your objective is to keep up.
